haha same, i remember keeping them on a stringer to show my mom when she came to pick me up.

they would start grunting at me, the sheepshead that is...and i was a bit freaked out the first time this happend.

i actually saw a few guys catching and cooking sheepshead on the spot last summer...i couldnt believe it. /puke

Im not into the idea of eating Sheephead meself.
I did see an episode of Italo a while back where he and Rocky Madson were catching them and keeping them to eat on Lake O.

I'm not into it either, there are a lot of other fish out there I feel would be more appetizing...esp. if its a Sheephead from the bay ;)

You know when you have a sheephead on though, they shake their heads a lot and go down, and not usually too far out...

a lil tip for those are newer to fishing, sheephead will hit just about anything, but because of their extremely sensitive hearing, rattlebaits work well...

That wasnt directed to you Alfie as I have been around long enough and read enough of your posts, but thought id share for the newbs!

Lol, absolutely no offence taken,
As I have said before. I fish for fish, but if I dont catch any I am perfectly content just to be sitting by the water. Trout, Pike, Carp or Sheephead all are great with me.
Sheephead for food, I dont know. My personal preference is Specks. But 95% of my fish are C and R. I believe I kept a total of one Walleye last yr and nothing else.
The eye didnt come from the bay, lmao. I would never eat anything from there. Randle reef.
The hearing thing is new to me, I will keep that in mind.

Alfie.

Gentlemen!
I am on a mission this year to scratch sheephead off my fishing to-catch-list.
Ive been fishing since I was 3, (25 years) and i think its weird Ive never ever caught a sheephead before.

I was thinking about rolling out to bayfront park in hamilton. Heard they are there in numbers.
Any tips? Ive never been to bayfront before.

thinking about worms on bobber, near the marina.

any tips would be greatly appreciated.

also, i dont know much about sheephead. are they there now? are they seasonal?
do they favor deeper water?

thansk in advance.

feel free to pm if you dont wanna post it here.

Have you had any success? I have never caught a sheepshead before and was thinking it would be good fun.

No unfortuantely.
Was going to head out last week but thunderstorms.
Might head out this weekend.

Works got me swamped right now. Been itching to get out for like 2 months now. Sad...

I used to catch them from promenade Park in mississauga. Boardwalk before the marina. They put up a good fight (more than bass).

Where was this one caught?

I feel you brother, for me, every day now is looking for a chance to head out. I'm thinking of taking the streetcar to Humber Bay Park tomorrow and trying my luck there. I was thinking of trying a curly tail, anyone know if the sheepshead would be interested? I'm debating because I don't want to hook intoa bass so I might just go for carp instead.

I hear there's about a bazillion of them, maybe 1.5 bazillion, off the Pickering nuclear plant.
dont you need a boat for that? can u access fishing for the power plant from shore?

You can access it and fish from shore. If you do that, they are so accommodating that they even put you up for a night or two with free meals. The beds are little rough, and the toilet has no privacy, but it's all free. Just don't drop the soap in the shower.

But seriously, yeah, a boat avoids the possible problem of pieces of lead flying past you at high velocity. On calm days it can be done with a canoe or kayak. This video isn't me, but it shows exactly where: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaOPKphYFok

ALOT of sheephead by the main outflow(east side of plant), on average catch a minimum of 5 per day, this is fishing by boat. We have caught ZERO on the west side of the plant by the smaller outflow, mostly bass, bows and pike on that side. Hope that info helps, if you can get out on a boat, then go for it

i could do that all day long......

I find the bigger sheephead I've caught were on crawfish, or if not readilly available shrimp from grocery store. In my opinion sheephead are somewhat underrated as fishing quarry. The bigger specimens especially in fast moving water can put up a very tough fight.
