my strangest looking fish was a channel cat from lake ontario that had no wiskers and it's tail was one from the top of it's head to under it's head almost like a eel i took it to the mnr office and they told me that it was a channel cat and not to eat it so i took it back and let it go
man they can live forever out of the water lol

Crazy, that fish must have lived close to Hamilton, lol I have caught a carp from RBG that had no tail,(I think someone ran it over with a boat it was a clean line) it didnt fight very well obviously but the thing was close to 30pounds.
Ahh lake ontario, gotta love the monsters that this old toxic lake holds.

Goby has got to be one of the weirdest things out there, and the other strange thing that I have seen is a eel like fish that looks like a large mouth bass.

omfg, I just remembered my first ever ice fishing experience with my grandpa as a kid. We were fishing bay of quinte in a heated hut, and he had the hockey game on. We both were trying for walleye but just getting perch, then he got a good hit, i remember him saying this ones a walleye, and as he reeled it in we got ready for the fish to come up through the hole. To both of our suprises and at the time i had no idea what it was but it resembled a banana with legs this lizard like fish cane through the hole and starter squirming/crawling around one the floor of the hut. My grandpa is german/check, I learned swear words that day i didnt know existed, lol he freaked when he saw it I think he was as scared as i was. He cut the line and shortly after we moved our hut quite a bit farther out on the lake.
I found out later in life after seeing them caught and seeing dead ones on shore that the fish was a dogfish, crazy looking things if u have yet to see on look them up.
Their gills stick way out with red poping out of the gill plates, and they are just ugly as hell.
Has the be the uglyest fish i have ever seen.

lol.. I think I would have feaked out too...

my weirdest fish has to be a flounder I cought in Florida about 15 yrs ago ... really weird looking with both eyes on top of it's head and the sideways mouth...

Apparently they are good eating, but I pitched it back.. it was only a little guy. fought real good too from what i can remember.

Chris, u sure it wasn;t a Mudpuppy?? its a fully aquatic salamander. really funny lookin. theres a lot of them in nippising. Dogfish are actually another name for Bowfin. and to the other guy who said he had a catfish with no wiskers and a long eel like body... was prolly a bowfin he caught too lol.

which is my answer, strangest thing i had, was a bowfin. had me stumped as to what it was till a little research helped me identify it. also, a gar pike was odd, but very cool, and my latest was a big mouth buffalo.

i caught the buffalo near Dunnville actually. theres a few of them around, but very rare, they are on the MNR special protected species list. and that wasn;t a carp mixed with a goldfish, it was a koi. lol, those ones u get at a pet store, they have lots of colors to them, but ppl let them go when they get big and we catch them in our waters. seen many and caught a few.

Apprently those flounder fish start off with one eye on either side of their body, and as they grow older, one of the eyes actually moves to the other side of the head!

hmm. thats cool man, did it put up a good fight? the pics I saw on google of the buffalo species are pretty big.
I would have snapped a couple pics quick if possible, who knows how many more will be around in 5 years.
As for the koi or w/e it was i would have put it in a tank, the thing was pretty fat so I know it would do a good job cleaning.

We caught a big ol' musky with some nasty sore on it. My friend's grandpa didn't want to release it so I think he buried it somewhere. That's gotta be the strangest looking thing I've seen on a fish but I didn't actually catch it. It was brought in on my rod tho.

lol yea dude, took me 10 minutes to land it. i was using a 5'6" medium action rod, 6lb line. and if u seen the area!! my god.. i was 6 feet up an embankment, the went straight down into the water, i had to climd down around trees passing my rod over them just to land the fish, it was work it though, such a fun fight on light tackle! and also because it was such a rare catch and somethin new for me.,

Ya those are the best catches, but i always find for the most part that when i hook into something like that I end up not having a witness around or no camera with me. Thankfully I now have a decent cell phone and i bought an extra digital camera that i leave in my box for just those moments.
Thats awesome though man and I hope your blessed with many more of those moments,
