Anyone ever "catch" themselves??

Hey,

It's happened to me a few times and to a friend of mine. I've had a hook catch me right in the chin from my brother casting in front of me... I had another friend catch me in the elbow once while trout fishing. and when I was a kid, I stepped on a big trebble hook, I had to go to the hospital to get it taken out...

Anyone ever caught themselves or been caught by someone?.. and how did you get the hooks out..

I can't be the only one...lol
 
Very long time ago when my brother and I first started fishing I had a one of those small hooks in my lower lip.
It didn't hook all the way but just kinda got stuck? due to the sharpness.
 
Happened to a friend of mine not too long ago. We were at centre island and my buddy was trying to unhook a pike I had landed. While he was kneeling down, the pike flipped up and the treble hook on the husky jerk ended up catching his thigh just below the groin area. Of course we happened to be fishing close to the bridge, so it ended up being quite a scene with my buddy standing there with the fish dangling from his thigh trying to stop it from thrashing and burying the hook deeper. We eventually managed to cut off the hook from the husky jerk and yanked the barb back out. We couldn't just push it through as it was stuck at an awkward angle and it would have just gone even deeper. Lol, both my buddy and the fish were fine in the end though.
 
try crappie fishing without a slip float because you believed and liked fixed floats more LOL. There was one year where we needed about 5 - 6 feet worth of line. On a cast you pretty much have to swing back so you make the rod parallel to the ground and toss it about when the rod was at 90 degrees to the ground. caught myself in the pants before, and while unhooking myself, dropped my rod into the water . 8)
 
Almost religiously happens to me whenever im picking weeds off my lure. Not enough that it gets stuck. Just enough that it pokes you and hurts.

I have however had a fish catch me. Ever have a bass start thrashing around while you are trying to free the lure from its mouth and that other treble hook get ya? Yeeeeoww!
 
Been lucky so far, 2 weeks ago I was trying to take a jig out of a tube to be resued in another one and the hook went into my thumb not deep enough but still hurt. now I use pliers or just tear up the tube and disgard.
 
I caught a rainbow and when I tried to get the hook out, it went crazy and on of the treble hooks went through my finger. I got the fish off, went back to the cottage and drove to the hospital with the lure still on my finger. I drove myself because it was early in the morning and everyone was still sleeping.
 
Last Sunday fell down a set of stairs and came out with a hook right through the bottom of the pinky where it meats the knuckle I guess its called.

Didn't think it was serious as no pain, Cut the hook and went fishing Sunday. Came home FINALLY after a few months away and went to the hospital Tuesday.
First in T.O they don't see many of these things in the city so you know the students just had to watch.

Second only 5 min to get the hook out.

6 HOURS on IV with anti biotic thing frig man the arm was an ice cube and not to mention the 50 bux for pills after.


Doc said "You have 24 hours to get any hook out or else it becomes infected" blah blah blah.

Let put this in perspective been away forever, finally get out again and get a injury and you expect me to stop before I even head out and miss the entire day forget that.

Cut the hook wrap it up and off we go deal with the hospital AFTER FISHING.

Where exactly was the lure when you fell down the stairs?
 
I was heading out to a little trout spot, was looking for this tiny mouse colored spoon that works well and I don't need everything so I pack a small plastic box and head out for a few hours.

Went back in the house for one last look for this particular spoon and decided to put on some of those rubber boats.
Heading out and had the spoon in my hand heading back to the car when I slipped and fell down the stairs.

I should have known better but who thinks about falling I don't consider myself clumsy I'm blame those dam rubber boots.

Lucky thing was the hips hurt so bad from the fall I didn't even know the hook was there.

Ahh just part of the game!

If the trip doesn't kill you the preparation for it might!
 
I read a book once that said you should wear safety goggles when your fishing. It's probably a good idea but no one does it.

I've fished with a few ppl where I had to duck once in a while when they casted, scary.... I don't wear a hat just for the sun:)
 
Bigfisherman sound like fishing with my brother, Smokes me in the back a few times each trip we call them love taps hahaha.
 
Hooked myself fishing Nipissing last year. The hook was embedded right into the cartllidge in the joint of my thumb. Tried pushing it through but it wouldn't go so off to North Bay hospital I go with a treble hook hanging from my thumb. The triage nurses had a good laugh !!! Four hours later the Dr cuts it out and then asks for the hook. He brought me to another room where there was a wall to wall cork board filled with lures !!!!! Guess I'm not the only loser !!!
 
I know this is a little bit off topic but its kind of funny.


One time I was fishing at G Ross Lord Park and some guy was casting and he caught something big. Unfortunetly for him it was a seagull and he struggled for a good 10 -15 minutes trying to unhook it. It was quite a sight to see.
 
I watched a teenager at Dunnville struggle with a Sea Gull he had hooked...It was quite a show...hahaha.
