So here's the story guys, I'm new to fishing so I don't know fishing in Ontario too well. I bought a Shimano Compre Spinning CPS66ML2B Medium Light 6'6" two piece yesutrday but I'm debating maybe I need to switch over to at least a medium for all around fishing. Can anyone give me some suggestions please or is the medium light going to be just fine?
Thanks,
Tinson

That is going to be fine for all around fishing...unless you are looking for some monster muskie you should be good. Now if you have the cash, it never hurts to have acouple of different rods...just to specialize maybe. But I use my light to med, and have had no problems catching fish.

I agree I have 5.6, 6, and 7 foot ugly sticks. I have other types but use the ugly sticks 95% of the time.

ugly sticks are great... if u don;t want any sensativity in ur rod. great for carp and channel cats. the 6'6" compre is a great rod. medium/light will do u fine. just stay within the reccommended line weights and lure weights. make sure u have a GOOD reel to pair up with it, that has a very good drag system. that will be imperitive to landing bigger fish on that rod with lighter line. as mentioned though, if u have the money, pick urself up another rod, 6'6"-7' medium/heavy and u'll have all ur bases covered.

LEBaron has Shimano Carbonex Rods on sale for about 23.00, which is a good deal. They have a 6.6 med action that would be a good all around rod.
The first rod that I would get would be a 6ft or 6.5ft med action rod and a spinning reel. I would recommend a fast tip and some thing made of carbon graphite for sensitivity. Like one of the other guys said, a reel with a good drag is important.

My two cents:
First take into account your height you don't want something to big to be comfortable and able to handle easy enough without getting in the way.
I'm 6 ft and I always get rods in 6'6" to 7' range. Just a little over your height better control. Longer rods == longer casts but u don't want super long else you can't get the cast PERFECT!
Now for starter kit go with med action rod should cover you alright but when you get more into it get all the ranges as no one rod covers all situations you will encounter.
Light med and heavy and a nice 10' rod for the salmon and steel trips.
Most important though is a good reel.
Ugly are good for kids as they never break but there are far better rods out there.
