Hey all, just recently did some river fishing basically as boredum relief. The 2008 river runs right by my place and the fishing has been patchy over the last 5 years. I got into some decent river bass, and a couple of 20-25 inch notherns in about an hour and a half of fishing. no pictures of the notherns as i caught them first and forgot i even had a camera with my tackle...Anyone else fish?

Hey there beleiver nice catch. Yes I fish the Nith as I have lived in New Hamburg for 2 years and I have recently moved to Stratford. I have fished a bunch of that river and I usually only pull out bass, I have never hooked into a pike in that river yet. I have caught a Walleye down near Haysville area. Anyways the better bass fishing spots are right near New Hamburg. Anyways great catch.

the nith starts about where i come from; Nithburg and runs south into the Grand River about Ayr or Paris. It is a fairly large river system. I have caught walleyes from New Hamburg to Plattsville and Pike north from New Hamburg to Milverton in the past...Not big pike and most of them more Grass pike then true Northerns. Bass are fairly plentiful but i have yet to pull one out over 3 or so pounds, seems they don't get much bigger.

There was a research study not to long ago where conservation authority were testing to see if rainbows could travel up from the grand and from further south into the nith river. They netted all fish above the dam in New Hamburg and i watched them pull out 10 or more 20" plus Walleyes and some decent bass. No pike and a ton of Carp. No Rainbows though. Definitly a shame would be nice to have a rainbow spot nearby.

I was fishing for bass near Paris last Monday and I caught a few smaller ones, but the fish of the day was a 24" rainbow! Beautiful fish who is now back in the river.

Hey buddy, if you do not catching anything, then why do you continue fishing there, "all the time"?

EASY!!!! It's within walking distance! And a bad hour or two at the river, is way better than an hour or two of TV! I also keep going to different spots trying to find a good one....

I caught the pike in my picture in the nith river in new hamburg at the end of fall 2011. Haven't caught tons of pike there but also caught a decent walleye about a week prior. Decent fishing in the nith and plan on checking out more spots down the river this summer. Crossing my fingers for a big 7 pound bass! 8-)

So do the fish make it over the dam in Caledionia? I was always under the impression that the dam was as far up as they went...
