I just recently got into it this year and I can't believe how many past seasons I've missed. The action is fantastic and it's better than sitting on the couch at home in front of the TV waiting for spring to come along.
Get out there and fish hard!

How do you like the 345C? I have the 343C and I'm happy with it, although it's my first fish finder so I'm not exactly an expert. Are you using an ice transducer? I just got into ice fishing last year, my equipment is list is as follows:
- 4 man Eastman Ice Cube
- Snow Trek Sled
-Coleman 318B heater
-343C Humminbird Fish Finder
-8" Normark Manual Auger
-Sub Zero Ice Cleats (come in handy if you want to keep all of your teeth)
-HT Ice picks(thankfully never had to use them but I won't venture on any ice without them being within easy grasp)

The 345c replaced the 343c for 2010. They are essentially the exact same unit with the same specs, aside from the 345c having a little bigger screen.
I absolutely love the 345c. I mark lakers and whitefish 120 ft down without problems...can also see tiny lure down at that depth without issues as well.
I much prefer a finder over a flasher... I can't stand looking at a circle of lights all day. I would get headaches.
No ice transducer for me yet. It's 80-100 bucks! I'm just rigged up with a wooden stick and a clamp. No issues thus far.
Got skunked today at Simcoe. We were pretty much one of the few anglers out there which is weird. Perhaps they all stayed home to watch the superbowl.
Marked quite a few fish, and had lengthy chases as well, but none commited. My buddy next to me managed to get a fish to follow the lure from 120 ft up to 60ft before it hit. Turned out to be a herring. hahaha. There are huge schools of herring that are making rounds on simcoe. About 20 feet below the ice. You can see them swimming. Quite the sight. Very much like watching them in an aquarium.
They are making a comeback. Surprisingly the MNR didn't open up a season for them as I've heard of quite a few catches this season. They can be easily mistaken for whities.

You should get some black aros.
Nice effort at Frenchman's Bay too... perch are better than nothing!
Good for that guy that pulled the pike up. It must be crazy to pull a 14lb pike through a small hole!

You can get nice RTGs for about $500 and Reds and Golds can be had for about $1000.
Check the local fish stores in the Markham/Scarborough area.
