A good way to fish smallmouth bass that has always worked wonders for me has been using the berkley powerbait pumpkinseed bass tube with a single splitshot at the end about half an inch up.
When fishing it work the slack in the line up and down gently to make a swim like motion in the tube.
This technique really trigures bass for me and I caught TONNES of them using this method.

I really enjoy your brook trout videos! You catch so many of them, it got me exploring and finding my own brook trout streams! And most importantly you seem to really love fishing.

Hello,
Although I appreciate Reelingit.... post, I must admit with rcflores, that nothing beats worms and leeches. I've never been able to catch anything with "plastic". May be I am just not good enough but it does not work for me.

Most bass (small and largemouth) that I have caught have been on plastics, most of the time a white curly tail grub either on the surface or just below with a light jighead. Never had much luck with live bait for bass, except for the time I used a (deceased) northern leopard frog and it summoned every bass in the lake. I never landed a bass with that frog, they took turns stealing it from one another and before I knew it one of the bass was long gone in the lillypads - too thick for my 6lb test.
Live frog tip: If you don't feel right using a live frog as bait - try finding a section of country road where hundreds of frogs get run over by cars at night following a rain. You can easily grab a dozen frogs that have already "said goodbye" but are still baitworthy.
