[Fishheads]

Just Wondering if anyone cares to share their top five favorite rivers for steelheading
My list looks like this:
1. Bighead (meaford)
2. Nottawasaga (Wasaga Beach)
3. Saugeen (Southhampton)
4. Beaver (Thornbury)
5. Ganaraska (Port Hope)
I am a Georgian bay man though
I not looking for arguments on the best river , just what everyone thinks.

It is great and Easy to get away from the crowds. The Beaver I really only fish in the spring these days.
Too many people like you said, but it's the river i learned on and every opening day I go back to my home river. Even on opening day if you know were to go you can get away from the crowds. I will say last year almost all the steelies were on the way out, had an early run in the spring and no rain Still good but it has been better.

well I'll trade you a tour of my rivers for a tour of yours Never get down that way for steelies Only once a year to the ganny for some mid sept Salmonid insanity.

After watching that BBC documentary "The Great Salmon Run" last night, I wish I was out in BC. Man, that's some insane amount of fish!

I lived in whistler for 5 years 1/2 hour down the road is squamish BC they get a great salmon run. It was insane Three different kinds of salmon hit that river all at different times Pinks, Coho, Chum Fished it with a fly rod and big streamers. During the pink run you could literally walk across the river on there backs.
Good times had by all, your arm gets tired after hitting 30 30 pound salmon in a row

The Notty, Beaver and Bighead are a long drive for me so I only fished them once a season. My list is ranked on the rivers where I have had the most 20+ fish days. I have only started fishing the Credit and Bronte and I haven't had a big day on either of these two rivers but the chance of getting bonus browns, and salmon are better than Huron and GB rivers. The quality of the riverbanks definitely suck on the Ganny and Credit, I am usually disgusted by the garbage left on these rivers.
The biggest average fish are from the Saugeen and Notty. I know the other rivers have big fish but on average the bigger rivers have the bigger fish. If you are keeping your fish then definetly my choice are the Huron and GB rivers.

Meaford? My inlaws live 20 minutes from there. Maybe I'll try it out over the holidays if it's still open.
Do you access it through the conservation area?

Better for eating out of the Huron and G-Bay But the fish are bigger out of lake ontario.
the mouths of Meaford and thornbury get the garbage pile and its unreal. Why must they through it on the ground as everyone says "If you can take it in you can take it out"

No conservation area needed there are about ten bridges that cross the river. Find one and walk from there.
The river closes dec 31st so hurry if you want to try it out.

3. Niagara (Best)
4. Rouge ( Just discovering some "secret spots")
5. Grand River (Grew up in Guelph, so used to go alot)


For sheer variety, scenery ... and year round availability, the NIAGARA RIVER is one of the best in the entire world.

wow the grand river!! I live in cambridge, galt area, i have fished the grand before, never thought of trout or steelhead ever being n there. i know that alot of steams and creeks will house some of the tout,
i have maneged to get a few, but real small ones.. so i never really take the time to explore my options, always think i must travel to fins good fish..

i would really like to find out more about the Grand river water shed, and all the good spots were different fish call there homes,

i know its an awesome river for bass and pike, carp, and all the other "entertenment" fish, but were are the trout and steelhead housed in the river...

maybe ill start a new post, "all about the Grand" and tribs,
