So, it may be a little early but heading out to Angus this weekend to battle the weather on the Notty. Anyone been catching?

head a little further up, to the town of evy, i was there probably 3 weeks ago and it is open. i saw a few fishing moving aswell, and lost one, so deffenatly worth a try.

sorry i mean ivy, and its just outside of barrie. if you get on 27 heading out of barrie, youll make a right on the 20th sideroad, and follow it to the end. but i wouldnt bothergo thereanymore, went yesterday, very high and mudy. sorry

So I'm heading out to the notty in Angus again. I have been there a few times now with no luck yet. Does anyone have any suggestiongs on fly's that they are taking. I have tried a variety of nymphs, really small dry's and a few streamers. I'm going to try some egg patters and plan to through some larger pink wolly's. I've heard that some take on the them. If you have any other feedback, let me know. I would love to set hook for the first time this year on Saturday.

Well, I was out again at the notty last weekend with little luck. I finally hooked up but only on some suckers using egg patterns. Pink were the only hits. I'm going to hit the bench tonight to get tying some blue winged olives and grey stone fly patterns. I saw some really small stone fly's in the water last weekend. the weather was so brutal though the chances were slim to begin with. Hopefully the weather's better.

I'll let you all know if I have any luck and share some patters.

Today the water was wickedly high. Was there from about 10:30 to1:30. One other fellow there but no luck.

Well I've been out at the notty about a dozen times now trying various techniques in a few different locations. I have seen a few browns and rainbows flopping on the water, but haven't been able to seta hook yet. I have tried just about every varriation of dry's that match the hatch, to nymphs or all sorts and atleast 25 streamer patterns. The water has been really high and soupy. really tough conditions. The only fish that I have seen get pulled out of the water thus far are suckers and a few mud puppies. All have been caught on worms and sinker rigs. I'm starting to think that the conditions are just not going to give up a fish. If any one has any specific techniques that have turned results, please let me know. I'm willing to give it another go. Out side of that, it looks like it's time to migrate north of the notty to start targeting the northern lake trouts while the spring run is still going.

i was out on the notty over the weekend, 1 small rainbow.

talked to a couple other fellows out there, they say its been very slow everywhere....

im going out again this weekend.

I think it's the calm period or break just before they head out into the lakes.

The notty can be a very tough fish for sure!! With its zero visability, i bet flyfishing would be crazy hard to succeed. I like fishing for cats in there.

The water reminds me of a BC lake we fished for a few days. Trout were surfacing all over the lake as we camped there. The visibility of the lake was almost the same as the notty. A guy we met owned a piece of property on the lake and offered to let us camp there and use his rowboat. I flyfished and threw spinners, bait, small spoons and came up empty handed for almost 2 days. Then 3 local guys came to the lake and launched their ski boat...my wife and i watched them troll the lake for a good few hours. As they pulled out their boat i went over and shot the breeze with them. Asking how they made out fishing, the one guy reaches in the back of the boat and pulls up a stringer with about 8 trout all in the 1.5 pound range.....What!!?? I said "Guys...ive been fishing this lake for 2 days and caught nothing...help me out! What are you using?" The guy reaches in his boat and pulls out his rod with a huge silver gang troll with a wedding band on the end. I asked the guy where if i could buy one in prince george anywhere(the closest city which was still 40 km away and we were hitchhiking) Sure enough he reaches in his tackle box and grabs an extra he had in there and hands it to me. "Have fun" he says. I tried to offer him some cash for the rig, but he wouldnt take it.
The next 2 days we hammered trout as i rowed as much as i could to get up to trolling speed.

i recently caught one bow on a spinner last weekend in the upper notty. and also another 3lb bow on roe on the opener. ive seen few steelheads and but lots of small little trout.
