Hey to all OFF members

I was wondering if anyone had any experience fishing Gull Lake or Silver lake in Gravenhurst

I know they are small lakes but I was curious what kind of fish are in them

I know they do stock it with rainbows but i was interested in knowing what else lurks below the surface

Thanks

Hey I lived in Gravenhurst for 20 years and have never heard of anyone catching a lake trout. But they were stocked in the 1950s along with Walleye and Brook Trout.

Today though the lake is mostly a Bass and perch lake. I have never caught any monsters but Small mouth are easy to catch most of the time and Large mouth are hit and miss. The lake also has a great rock bass fishing.

they stock rainbow every two years and you do catch them but they are not monsters, I tend to let most go.

I have found that a jointed J13 Black and Silver has been by far the most productive, the next would be the good old worm.

For trout I have got them on spoons and inline spinners.

Will you have a boat?

I was at at gull on sunday, fishing was slow, pike aren't abundant from what i was told and rare through the ice. As for a 32lb laker coming out of there thats pretty crazy i was told the average laker coming out of there is 4lb so 32 must be a record for the area. As for other fish, there are a ton of herring and smelt. Whitefish, perch and smallies as well as largemouth. Unfortunatley i didnt experience the great fishing ive been told occurs there, ended up leaving and spending the night in barrie hit up simcoe this morning. Again this info isnt from from my experience on this lake it is from i was told by an operator this sunday.

From what I know there is no pike or whitefish in gull here is a MNR data page search for Gull Lake MNR DATA

O poop I meant J 8 or 9 the medium size one I always get them mixed up. But the J13 works good in Muskoka Lake for pike.

As for places I have never really found a good all around spot for trout I just troll up and down the lake in the spring and fall. I have got a few large mouth in the bay straight across from the beach, also there is a really small island that is just under the water in the middle of the lake be careful until you get an idea of where it is as more then a few boats have hit it. But there can be good small month around there along with some monster Rock bass I have found its alot better in the evening. I have read that the other end of the lake is good for bass but have never got very much but in truth I have not fish gull that much. I did when I was young but at that time I didn't understand much and only got small ones. If you go into silver lake there is a small bay I have got a few bass there.

Hope that helps

Cool have you had much luck in Silver I remember a few years ago I went over the whole lake and I had trouble finding fish. I did spot a few pretty deep right on the bottom maybe they were trout but they could also be small mouth.

I am still exploring Silver Lake. I have gone around with my depth finder just to get an idea of what the lake is like. There are some areas which can get fairly deep . One area near a rock wall was reading 55-60 ft .

Deep water can be a good sign.

Didn't get out as much as I would have liked last summer had 10 weddings to attend to ( basically my summer was shot)

Good news no weddings this year so I will have a lot more time to be on the lake
