To each his own. But I can tell you that there are tournaments for carp that will test you both physically and mentally. There is the Carp Angling World Championship on the St. Lawrence river in a few weeks. It is a five day event. You fish straight through as a two man team. You have to set up a baiting campaign that takes both knowledge and stamina.i would call it a sports its should be more of a hobby than a sports in my opinon.
Then there is the the tournament on the Seneca River at Baldwinsville New York . It is a two day tournament. again you fish the whole 48 hrs. A couple of years ago the winning two man team landed 2,800 lbs of carp. Carp under 10 lbs do not count. Guys have fished it and said "no thanks , not again , it almost killed me." There is no other fresh water fishing events like these in the world.
Of course you can go to a local fishing spot and fish for carp and not be 10 ft away from your car or you can take the arduous trek into the Niagara gorge for some incredible scenery and some very hard fighting fish.

Corn will sink. But you can make it pop up. You can buy fake floating corn or you can use a piece of yellow disposable ear plug and cut it into the right shape. You put it on the hair in combination with the real stuff. Lots of guys do this and they like the results. That second video is amazing, first one not working but I have a question, will corn sit upright like that pop up bait off the bottom as well or will corn sink to the bottom. Nice to see how the hair rig sits. Cool.

I just started tying hair rigs with proper hooks yesterday after a few mammoth carp straigtened out my small egg hooks that were supposed to be for salmon. I got all the gear; threader, drill, hooks and boile stops. I always figured the boile stops would be made of a soft waxy material but the ones I got were hard plastic. How are these supposed to stay in the loop when you are using corn? do you just need to make sure you have enough corn on to put force against the boile?
Just snug the corn up against the stop. That will hold the stop in it's place. The number of kernels of corn you use depends on how long the hair is.
What kind did you get? There are V shaped , dumbbell shaped and ones that look like a mushroom with a hooked stem.

I dont have them with me but out of those options I would say they are dumbell shaped. they come in strings of 8 or 10 and they have lumps and skinny parts along the string and I just break them off in sections of 2. I found a picture that looks like what I have on google.
Those are fine. Like I said just snug the corn up against them and they will do the job.
