Was at one of the eastern tribs today and just walked on the river bank for 1 hour. All I can say is that it was a zoo. At least 500 people, basically forming a continuous line on and in the river. Lots of fish but the poor things could not move up at all. Saw two fish that were landed, and each had over 5 hooks in different parts of their bodies. Tons of dead fish on the bank, floating in the river, and hanging on logs, etc. Man I bet if there was one warden there he could have earned MNR hundreds of thousands of dollar only on that stream as 9 out of 10 fish were snagged or milked for roes, then dropped back. My first time being there at this time of the year, on a weekend so perhas it is like that every year. Hooh, I will have a nightmare tonight

yup that's how east is so i stay far away as i can. I was there 3 weeks ago and what i saw was shocking and disturbing.

Too bad did not have a camera with me, but there was this lady who looked like a journalist and was taking shots one after another. I supose any weekend with good weather this time of the year would gather such a crowd. One interesting observation was that once I passed a deep pool up the river, there was no single person. Then I started looking aroudn and noticed no fish was actually able to make it past all those people so basically no fish (thus no man) past that point!
Maybe they need to think about changing when we can fish for these awesome fish, so that they can actually have a better survival rate. There's an idea. Or change the limitations behind it, only catch and release, not allowed to keep any at all.
Thats actually an interesting thought. Maybe put a catch and release only during the major staging period (say last saturday of september) to allow for the majority of the fish to get up stream and hopefully spawn and fair game after that..?
I have been told that majority of the salmon we se are stocked and less than 10% are naturally produced in the rivers. That's why the MNR does notcare. This is however what I have heard from an experinced fisherman and not necessarily credible. Would love to hear someone from MNR comment on this
I was thinking more of when there in the tribs make it catch and release. But even staging, cause I guess they don't eat as much when their in the tribs right?
Now imagine if they put these restrictions on, and continued stalking the population as well. Think about how much more wild salmon we would have in the west and the east. Think about the fishing than....than after a couple years lift the CAR for a couple years and re-implement in again a couple years later or as stocks starts diminishing again.

if it was up to me i'd make all salmon strictly catch and release.
No kill= no free eggs ! Then the first thing I'd do is to run a business, buying roe from commercial fisheries out west/east and selling them in Ontario,

yeah cos they'll loose business lol. These same topics come up every year nothing ever gets solved more fish get slaughterd etc.
I'm definitely in favour of catch and release only certain years to allow the stock to replenish. I enjoy fishing, and i especially enjoy catching fish, id rather a day full of catching and a belly full of Subway from not being able to eat what i catch then going up every weekend and getting skunked because its empty. Also i think there would be less people out to just snag a fish and bring it home.
I guess it takes presintance, and maybe if theres 2 groups kinda going after the same thing, maybe they'll listen to one of us. I think making some of the time a CAR only is more likely to happen than a 1 fish limit IMO.

Not going to happen. Attract alot of tourist and provides income for the city.
I suppose tourists are to enjoy the sport of fishing and not take it home so such change (if ever happens) would have little effect, if any. The suggestion is catch and release. I do not think the fishing for one species would considerably decline if it becomes catch and release. examples are atlantic salmon, sturgeon.
