Hi Everyone, currently going through steelie withdrawal - I can't get out as often as I used to so i definately can't get my fix from the cooler waters of the northern tribs. I'm stuck to wait for a decent run of eastern trib steelies. I know some are in but not in numbers - but i'm hoping the rain we've been getting change that.

Anyone do any night fishing for steelies in the eastern tribs - (any tips?) i don't get to do as much day fishing so sometimes i have to resort to the evening!! :( sigh

The Ganny is a great place to night fish , lots of Steelies come in the lower-deeper end of the river at night . Browns and Lakers too .
With Oct. and Nov. being the very best months to fish , at least through my experiences . Bottom rig with roe or skein , even a fresh dew worm will work too.

This post was in "NIGHT FISHING" and pretty well says it all:

Back to the topic of "night fishin ' ".
When I lived in T.O. , my buddy and myself would head out to the " Ganny " at 10 p.m. and fish for Steelhead . We fished the bottom with barrel weights and " corkies " with skein ( preferably Brown skein ) . We brought the thermos and junk food , rod stands and lanterns . We'd sit in the back of the truck , hook on a 1 " by 1 " chunk of skein , toss it into the river and place the rod in the the holder and wait . On average , from 11 p.m. to daybreak , we would have landed numerous Steelhead , Browns and Lakers .
The Lakers run in October and come in the river only at night . October and November nights are cold sometimes , but our best times at the Ganny were most definately at night. Daybreak would bring MANY anglers and most of the fish were back in the lake .

It's only a few more weeks. You'll have all of November and December for Rainbow Trout.

Patience is a virtue :)

Indeed it is!! I'm pretty much trying my best to atleast fish - I've beenfishing upper rouge a lot only because it's so close to the house but no sign of steelies (south of 407). Does anyone hear ever fish for steelies around nov/dec here?

Haha. According to my Ufindfish app from italo now would be a good time. 407 seems a bit high now have you tried around HWY. 2?

ITalo does it again! SO is this an iPHone app? That's jokes, guess its a good indicator - along with the fall leaves!! The only time I tried Hwy 2 i fished for about an hour midday - no luck - couple of other floatfishermen left as I came saying don't bother fishing, guess I should have listened but you never know lol

Yeah, it's an iPhone app, but it works on all apple devices. Gives lots of good spot ideas especially if you like Bass fishing Kawartha lakes. Anyways, good luck. Make sure you try other rivers too if your not having much luck at Rouge. I know duffins is going to have some nice fish in a few weeks.

Thanks Meppsman. I've fished there too, not much action yet atleast where I'm fishing, other than salmon that is. Sorta tired of pulled arm muscles, bent hooks/flies as a result of those giants. I guess patience will pay off!

I'm west of T.O. We're waiting for chrome to appear in the Grand too. I guess I'll find out Sunday if the rains this week triggered a run. Sure hope so :)

Grand must be nice - never fished it for Steelie, but did well on smallies around Caledonia and downstream! I remember watching Italo catching steelies at the grand on TSN a long time ago!!

The Grand is a great place to fish. I've never fished it for Steelies before, but it sure looks like it will happen this year. I've found a place this year which looks like prime Steelhead water. They weren't there last week-end, but the smallies and channel cats were a lot of fun and a 6 lb pike too. If the Steelies aren't in yet I'm sure we will do well on other fish, but I hope the cooler weather and rain have brought them in.

Alfie.
