I pulled off a set of fish lips when i was a kid with braided line. . .(remember gorilla braid) lol. . . about the 10lb test. . . I always used Drennen 6 lb test. . . this year trying something new. . 10 lb flouro frog hair. Only because its flouro. Make sure you get some pics of that steep climb eh lol

The line you use does not show the level of fishing skill you have. In some situations very light low visibility line is the smart decision. In other situations 50lb line is the smart decision. The level of fishing skill is indicated by wether or not the angler knows when to use what.
Just out if interest, what are people targeting using 50lb braid in Ontario?

I was referring to the part where you talked about bass and weeds. There are plenty of smaller lakes that offer great bass fishing in heavy weed cover. A 2lb bass wrapped around a couple of lily pads can break you off 20lb braid. I still just use 20lb braid in those situations but if you read bass magazines plenty of pros use 50lb braid on their flipping setups.
As far as whirlpool goes I dont see a use for 50lb braid, the only use for braid would be on a dipsy setup fishing for kings out in the lake. If your gonna run braid at the whirlpool 20lb would be enough.
