Hi guys, so here's my story. I am brand new to float fishing and I started tributary fishing this year when my friend offered to take me out to fight some Nooks. Making a long story short, I got hooked and went out and bought my first rainbow rod, a nice lil 10'6" St Croix Wild River. Soon after, I went out to the tribs, got skunked, learned some lessons, then starting hookin into bows for my first time. The first bow I hooked and landed was a nice chrome chunk that was my biggest until last week when I caught a 10+ tank for the first time( this was my 11th bow I had ever caught). The fish took the roe with a snap of its jaw, I waited half a second saw the float submerge and leaned into a sturdy hookset. I didn't see the whole fish but my newly made friend Chris reassured me it was a whale. The bow ripped line off the spool with ease and had me wrapped up around a log in a few minutes despite my best efforts to keep it out of the wood, I was sure I had lost it until the line popped off the log and I could once again feel the headshakes. A few suspenseful moments passed while Chris talked me through the landing. I slowley walked the fish onto the bank where Chris grabbed it by the tail and I yelled a sigh of relief but more so one of excitement. A couple quick pictures ( thanks to Chris) and the buck was back into the water cruising toward the murky green hole disappearing like a ghost. It is easy for a fellow angler to understand why I am now obsessed with this sport as many of you have had similar stories of that elusive tank that brought so much satisfaction when caught. I am in love with the new adventure that we insane people call float fishing and will certainly never stop. Don't ever forget to thank the fish you caught for the memories and good luck, Jake.
