Spawning takes its toll on them, and like some steelhead, they die after spawning. Might not have been its first time spawning.

I knew I had to land this hog after having lost another very similar looking fish and a rainbow within about 10 minutes on Sunday evening.

Had a tonne of energy and did not take to the air. Usually the smaller browns are acrobatic, this is actually the biggest brown I have ever caught, just shy of 30 inches, so I am not surprised it stayed low.

Thought it was going to get tangled up in a beaver dam and it was heart pumping action for what felt like 5 minutes but was probably a little bit less. I had just lost a similar brown due to trying to land it too quickly and popping the hook out, so I lowered the drag and really took my time on this one.

Picture does not do it justice - it had a strong red tinge all over the lower portion - probably the most vivid brown I have ever caught.

Caught on a medium sized roe bag.
