They are definately a very enjoyable and readily available species to catch however that shouldnt cause us to view them as a native species. Their effects reach much further than the effects on bass, pike, brookies etc. Common Carp are capable of destroying entire wetlands and all forms of life that depend on those wetlands, they are a very very big problem and while it may be impossible to eliminate them it is not impossible to try to control the population.

I was communicating with the Invasive Species Hotline and they informed me that the only reason they are not listed as invasive is due to politics
You mean because they attract people to gardens/places etc. that keep carp in their ponds for people to feed?

If by politics they mean the government not wasting money trying to achieve something that is impossible I am all for those kind of politics. The real politics are being played by those that want to get a hold of government money by using the latest scary buzz word " invasive species. "You mean because they attract people to gardens/places etc. that keep carp in their ponds for people to feed?

I was planning on trying some carp fishing this spring/summer,but why wait i guess, they look nice in the snow. Havent caught to many other than incidental catches at the gorge while targeting bows. One thing i know is that these things can run! Exciting fish to battle with for sure . Where abouts do you fish for them? Ive seen videos in the UK of ponds stocked full of carp, anything like that around here?

You could also check this site out. It is a link to a site set up by the MNR. Here's your money at work providing anglers with useful information about places to fish for carp and other species.

No mainly issues with the pro-life advocacy equivalents of the fish world saying they shouldnt be hurt and we cant elimanate them so what is the point in taking the life. Also many anglers arent comfortable or dont have the stomach to euthanize such a large fish.

let me guess.....gobies and snakeheads arent a threat either???? And we should all release them because they are life forms too and we cant do anything to control the population..........I think I just puked in my mouth...
