Headed out on Saturday for my first laker trip of the season.
The fishing was on FIRE. For my buddies that is.
Two of them went a total of 8 landed for 13 hooked. Some of them were absolute pigs!!!!
We only stayed until noon as I had some stuff planned for the evening, but I'm sure they would've got way more if we continued.
Unfortunately for me, I didn't see much action at all. Nothing really went my way.
I went 0 for 1. Lost it after a few seconds :(

Wanting redemption, we headed out again on Sunday.
Two friends started the day off with a sweet double header.
That did NOT make me feel any better!

Looking like another skunk was coming my way, I finally managed to gain some interest in this one fish and convinced it to hammer my offering.

Can't wait to get back out there for more.

Congrats for the first laker of the winter! Can I ask what setup did you catch it on, also if used a sonar, why model?

Thanks!

Rod: 28" Simax Medium Heavy
Reel: Shimano Stradic 2500mgfb
Line: 8lb PLine flouroclear
Lures used: spoons, tubes, plastics, swimbaits
Depth fished: anywhere between 80-130 fow... best to move and change depths to find active fish. The above fish was caught in 127 fow.
Sonar: Humminbird 345c portable

The trick is to get the fish interested. It's a game of cat and mouse. Make the fish want your offering and get it to aggressively chase upwards.
I'm not going to lie... it's not easy.
Took me a long time to get my first this way.

Hopefully I'll have more success this weekend. I just picked up a 36" medium St. Croix Premier that I want to break in.
I find the longer length would be nice for jigging.

Good luck out there, it's a short season. Make the most of it.

How do you like the Pline Frozen? I have a spool at home but have heard alot of bad things about it so I havent used it yet.

I love PLine!

It's the only mono mainline I use. (Aside from my river fishing float setups - I use Raven 10lb mono for that)
