I noticed this morning that CRAA is holding a spring tournament on the credit river at Erindale Park May 5 th. The notice appeared on the floatboard if your interested.
Maybe I'm a noob or its the fact I just woke up and eyes haven't uncrossed yet but I can't seem to find info anywhere.. I'm on the CRAA site now but still nothing .. I've never caught a steelhead before or entered a tourney so I'm looking to kill two birds with one stone, well at least one bird with the tourney, steelhead still to be determined lol.

Looks like fun, I wonder how they determine who is experienced/beginner. I would consider myself more than just a beginner but not experienced enough to take a beginner out for their first time...
Yah I was thinking the same. I don't consider myself an expert, but there's guys who fish way more then i do and don't do well... I think I'm still going to go, but i know there's some legends that fish the credit and know every nook and cranny, and I have only fished it once and have been detered for a long time because of the crowds. Still, it'd be fun to meet a bunch of you guys and put my skills to the test on a new river, and a larger one then most. Hmmmm.

There isn't gonna be any steel left in the credit by then.

I disagree with that. The Credit River usually has fish even through June. There should be enough for the tourny by May 5th, even with this warm weather

Have you looked at the river?
It has been raging for 3 weeks. Norval is stacked. They have been running thick and flying right through since October.
It was +26 today. in MARCH.
Opener is a month away. The water temps rose like 10 degrees while I was there today.
There will be the odd straggler but 99% of the fish in every trib will be back in the lake come opener.

I'm not trying to argue with anyone, I know it's been a strange year, and I have seen some dropbacks and fish sitting on reds already but... What about the maturity of the skein? I don't honestly know how it works but I would think that bows can't really control the readiness and maturity of there eggs no? We checked out a spot were fish start to spawn and yah there was a pile of them sitting up river already, but some still chrome as a quarter, so I don't know, but I think opener is still going to be good, just not amazing.
Any thoughts?

Question.. If the seasons continue to advance calender wise ie. This year's warmer winter and no snow and spawning is triggered early for multiple years, will the MNR then advance our seasons as well to keep the populations in somewhat control? Obviously after a couple more early springs...

I agree with the consensus that most (not all) of the fish will be out of the rivers system by the opener..I'm not trying to argue with anyone, I know it's been a strange year, and I have seen some dropbacks and fish sitting on reds already but... -I landed a spawned out hen this weekend..& she was chrome as could be.
The weather will dictate/signal when spawning will occur. Now take into account the warm & wet weather.. I believe that they will spawn early and be out of the system prior to opener.

I haven't caught a single one with skein still.
I walked the crap out of almost every east trib yesterday from lake to CNR. Found a few fish, but it was 99% chubs and suckers.
Of course the only fish I saw were carried out by MEAT HUNTERS.
