Are you in contact with anyone at the HarbourCentre? I have not been able to get any replies or statements from them on why they applied the ban. Difficult to find a work around if we dont know their reasoning for the ban, it could just be that one of the board directors is anti-fishing.( quote from mike h)

mike h
scott cornett from the police marine unit asked me not to confront them personally or contact them....
remember they want me charged with tresspassing....oh and the real criminal act of fish'n
i am not to engage them directly...police instructions ....i am not gonna piss off the police we need them.
scott cornett said he would contact me when he was sure he fully understood their position....i am sure it has been in flux
the toronto port authority calling them out on misrepresentation of their laws etc.
i will call him tomorrow and see if he has news....
maybe i am too patient....the fishing brings out the best character flaws..patience...

You should probably leave it until Friday afternoon. Sounds like keeping a low profile and staying in the Marine unit good books is the best plan. I'm sure Harbourfront are scratching their heads on how to implement the ban now they can't blame it on the TPA. There are three city councillors on their management team, so if we dont hear back from HarbourFront Centre from your contact at the Police or to my email, I'll drop in at City hall one afternoon next week and submit a question in writing to the councillors.

i was thrilled with wil wegman's letter today...
he and the mnr are going to do their best to clarify where we can fish and maximize our territory within their means of negotiation...then they will communicate to all parties involved what the final outcome will be...
this is an incredible undertaking by the mnr...i am so impressed with them..they have my respect..and thanks.
mike h established this contact with the mnr for us and he is to be thanked for such a breakthrough....

thanks Blair for your support....
no you do not need to be bait for the harbourfront security
always fishing you are....this time for trouble...lol
last thing we need right now is trouble...we gotta let the mnr and tpa and marine unit do their behind the scenes negotiations
we are moving forward because we are using diplomacy and not a standoff at the harbourfront.....
i can not stress this enough...we do not want to cause the above organizations any embarassement or trouble
we do not want to give harbourfront centre trouble if there is still a chance of them comming to the table with a comprimise.
we need peace and diplomacy and unity amoung anglers
we need be diplomats for our passion fishing not warriors of the sword
thanks ....
blair looks like i will be seeing you lots at the islands this year...we can still fish there and that is terrific news.
have not seen any carp out there the last two weeks....and only a couple small pikes
bet this weekend will be better
glad to hear your working lots....you'll be able to purchase that magical lure we all believe will make the difference....there is always
one that captures our imagination and that we gotta go out and buy...
peace

Hi David ... your welcome. If you, Mike and others can help by keeping the troops at bay - so that all anglers involved are seen by the various gov't players as fine upstanding citizens who just want to fish, then that would be a big help. The angling community needs to take the high road here - and this could involve biting our tongues and walking away for now if confronted by security or other City staff regarding fishing in areas where they possibly 'technically' can't. From my end I'll continue to try and set up a meeting with the players and go from there.

Thanks

sorry for updating you guys so late today...
i was doing damage control for the cause after work with the police....
seriously Wil Wegman from MNR and Mike Riehl from TPA deserve our respect....and we can do that by showing them we are gentlemen....
so i will please ask you again to stand down from direct conflict with harbourfront centre staff and security and the Toronto Police.....
my understanding is that a few of us have been doing a little instigating in your face fishing claiming it is our right...
trust me when i tell you...we are accomplishing way more diplomatically through the MNR and TPA......
please do not ruin this by playing into the hands of the harbourfront centre mgmt and their security staff
i have a legal action to play in court if we want to say "in your face" but i would rather secure our waterfront access above all else.
do all of us proud ...keep the peace...get the waterfront access back.
peace and thankyou

jwm....should i press charges against the hfc security who on march 18 misrepresented themselves as agents enforcing tpa laws...
i have two police officer witnesses and pics identifying the hfc car and security person. as well the police officer's notes...could be requested as they document the crime of misrepresentation by the hfc security.....wonder what the tpa and mnr may want me to do as we proceed forth...
i would get direction from them....david

from jwn

If anyone is fishing on the harbour front and is asked to leave by a security guard, ask them why, ask them for their name, and ask them who they work for. Document all of these things, apologize and leave. I absolutely agree in taking the high road here. Do not instigate a fight when these guys, its not worth it at this time.

TangledLines, I can't advise you to press charges, but I can tell you to follow your gut instinct. If you were treated unfairly and detained unlawfully by this security guard then you probably have every right to do so, and you'll probably even win. I don't know what it would mean for the on going process we have now, but I'm a firm believer that if we do not push back when our rights have been abused they'll one day be stripped away from us all. Whatever you do, you have my support.

any legal actions i might pursue i would do under the guidence of the tpa, the mnr, toronto police marine unit...these are the authorities that i consider our allies....and i am sure that they have contacts who work at hfc they do not want to polarize into enemies.....ruffling of feathers over political views is one thing amoungst these groups(they still got to work together at the end of the day)...criminal charges...an action that may place a strong divide between them...i am upset... but i do not want to comprise our movement "to protect our access to the shoreline of toronto for fishing".

In terms of getting the word out, I can post a warning at Ontario Sportfishing, but does anyone here have an account at OFN? (I got banned from OFN for posting a link to one of my get started fishing articles). I dont think OFN has many Toronto Members but you never know.

with taking the high road in the face of adversity fresh on everybody's mine...
you deserve a little smile for your face...

It happened at a New York Airport. This is hilarious. I wish I had the guts of this girl. An award should go to the Jet Blue Airlines gate agent in New York for being smart and funny, while making her point, when confronted with a passenger who probably deserved to fly as cargo. For all of you out there who have had to deal with an irate customer, this one is for you.

A crowded Jet Blue Airlines flight was canceled. A single agent was re-booking a long line of inconvenienced travelers. Suddenly, an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. He slapped his ticket on the counter and said, "I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS."

The agent replied, "I'm sorry, sir. I'll be happy to try to help you, but I've got to help these folks first; and then I'm sure we'll be able to work something out."

The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that the passengers behind him could hear, "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?"

Without hesitating, the agent smiled and grabbed her public address microphone. "May I have your attention, please?", she began, her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal. "We have a passenger here at Gate 14 WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him with his identity, please come to Gate 14".

With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the Jet Blue agent, gritted his teeth, and said, "F*** You!"

Without flinching, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry sir, you'll have to get in line for that, too."

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

oops...misrepresentation again...why are guys in their mid 40's dave chong and myself being targeted....
we must appear to be the wild ones...dangerous ....crazy...irresponsible....lol
targeting me was a mistake...targeting a host of the 65th toronto sportsman show ....a well known and truly respected
celebrity/pro fisherman/guide/mentor and ambassadour to our sort of fishing in canada....well that is a little more than a mistake....dave chong has always given his time and resources to promoting fishing and access to fishing(ie kids programs) in the city of toronto when he is passing through...."i think that somebody just tripped a landmine" so to speak
maybe the sportsman show will not be held in toronto anymore....too bad for the hit to the economy.....
the action and drama is about to pick up i would believe.....

OH WOW!! I am very sure that now he is involved their is going to be some seriously quick decisions made now. When you mess with too many people, one day it's going to be that ONE too many. Think of the impact the city of Toronto would feel if the sportsman show wasn't put on there. And could be moved to the I.C by the airport, but people would still stay in Toronto hotels and visit Toronto. It would need to be west tin or past the Hammer, east in or past like Oshawa, and north in or past Barrie for the full effects to be felt from that!

Where are these signs posted? Inside their buildings...whats good would that do, ohhhh thats for our inside pond. They need to make em more visable. What I didn't like reading their is that they don't much anything about HFC using TPA #24 were TPA dosen't enforce it them selfs as they dont really care about it. I wonder what other newspapers will print, if they do.

But at least its in the bigger media now as well :D

The picture in the news article is the breakwater wall in west end of Alexandra Marina. I have fished there many times.
I dont think thats part of Ontario Place at all, I think it's still part of Coronation Park which is a city park, covered by the city bylaw and has no signs prohibiting fishing.
