Communication to The Toronto Port Authority was responded to quickly by the Deputy Harbour Master. TPA rule #24 was not applicable in the manner in which it was being used. Furthermore those using TPA rule #24 were not authorized by the TPA to enforce it.
Individual rights and freedoms were being violated by members of HFC security and Toronto Police when they misrepresented themselves as having authority to enforce TPA rules.
Why? ……Under who’s instructions? .....For what purpose?
The Toronto Port Authority and M.N.R. have been to task at providing clarity of law and issues.
The Toronto Port Authority has clarified areas to fish legally along Toronto’s shoreline….
Tommy Thompson Park may be fished in designated areas. (access only weekends )
Toronto Islands Park may be fished in designated areas. (a $7 fee for ferry required)
Ontario Place North Shore may be fished in designated areas.(until renovations begin later 2012)
Municipal Parks may be fished as long as the port slips they boarder are not HFC owned. (most port slips are HFC owned)
The Toronto Port Authority has been in communication with all land owners along Toronto’s Harbourfront, in an attempt to negotiate further designated fishing areas.
This is where we need your help.
We need additional voices and political pressure to achieve a fair compromise from all those involved in this issue.
We need the private landowners such as HFC to post their property rules and boundaries with signage so that people who fish do not unknowingly offend them.
We need to inform the public of the appropriate areas they may fish legally along Toronto’s Shoreline and harbourfront. A map would be a useful tool.
We need to insure safe accessible fishing opportunities to those who are young, old, physically or mentally challenged, or financially challenged.
We need to protect the rights and freedoms of all individuals from those who would exploit them through misrepresentation of authority of rules and laws.

I have emailed Waterfront Toronto to ask if their map is still current, and if it's not, could they provide one that is.

I wanted to ensure you were aware that Councillor Vaughan has seconded a motion at City Council moved by Councillor Paula Fletcher requesting that all public bodies along the lakeshore in Toronto refrain from interfering with sport fishing unless for safety reasons. This makes me very sad. A huge historical and important part of Canadian heritage is fishing! I don't live in Toronto but I was going to bring my pole this Thursday when I had a show to see at the sound academy... I guess I should just leave my pole and tackle at home. I hope something positive can become of this. It isn't right what they're doing.

notice to all fishing is now formally illegal in all city of toronto parks as of june 06, 2012 the signs were installed today all along the city parks along the harbourfront.....all the suggested sites by toronto port authority are signed illegal to fish....

i will contact tpa to ask what happen?
i will contact city councillors to ask about communication of this mater.

i am beyond angry.....i am going to do my best to manage my anger until i have researched a little more

This is very bad news.
Something I caught this morning on the local news is Ontario Place is being considered for being turned into a Casino. Is this part of an agenda here, I think it is.
Should gather up all the junk/discarded fishing gear & leave it on the Mayors lawn or take it to city hall.

A page of big disappointment gets entered into the Toronto history books...........

I cant fathom the reasoning behind it being illegal to fish in a PUBLIC park. Are fishing rods considered weapons now... pathetic.

If they get away with this the site has no need for a "GTA urban shore fishing" section. People lacking transportation will not be able to fish. Must suck to live in TO.

$2000 fine for fishing, shootings, gangs, taxes through the roof, pollution, what's to suck about Toronto ? I hope that the fishing ban gets turned over one day but I think now that this law is in place it'll be a long time if it ever changes.
