Hi everyone
With more cool weather on its way I decided to fish some new water today with a good friend of mine. I was hoping for a fresh run of rainbows to come into our spots as well as some fish to drop down from spawning.
We arrived at our spot around 7am and started to explore the water while drifting roe bags and worms and after a few drifts we started to hook up on fish. I started off with a nice little 2 Lb dart and the fishing continued to get better as the morning went on. Over the next couple hours we landed a pile of fish between 3-9Lbs and lost a hand full of steelhead in the process. After fishing for hours and landing a bunch we decided to fish our way back upstream where we stopped and took a few drifts. Almost instantly my partner hooked into a big rainbow which he eventually lost . We continued to fish the area and landed 2 nice sized fish. I decided to move upstream just slightly and take a few more drifts before we left, this ended up being a very wise choice. While having a conversation with my friend and not paying attention I turned around to notice my float had disappeared so I immediately set the hook. Right away I knew I was hooked into a good sized fish but it wasn't until the end of the battle that I realized how big this steelhead actually was. After landing the fish I quickly measured it, snapped a few pictures and released her. The fish was an amazing 35" long and a great finish to the day.
Overall we had a great day on the water, I managed to land 8 steelhead and my friend landed a bunch as well. Here is a few photos from the day, Enjoy!!
