RiverNinja, many people do in fact target suckers. It doesn't make sense to speak for every angler. Peoples interests certainly vary.
It becomes a problem though when people feel they have the right to fish trout sanctuaries with trout baits.
to sum it up the trout will be targetting YOU which is no different than you targeting the trout, but as humans we have the ability to acknowledge that and avoid it

No angler would go out of their way to target suckers..
some people just like to fish and have fun, and they don't care what kind of fish bites the bait. one can say he had an awesome day and landed 3 rainbows, while other can say he had a fantastic day and landed 50 suckers. to each their own.

I have to say "That's A Moderate Position" Just doing your job lol
IMO the only issue I see with fishing for suckers in a closed area is that it's OK by law, If the river was closed people would not be their. I fully agree fishing for suckers is fun, but it should only be allowed during open season in fish sanctuaries. Some people are truly fishing for suckers and others are just their to fish rainbow and take advantage of the loophole. Take away the loophole and everyone is happy.
I love Fishing suckers and after sucker it's carp, but you would never see me in a sanctuary fishing for suckers. With my luck I would get nailed by MNR. One look in my fishing jacket I would end up with a huge fine and snubbed by the local fishing community.
I will say it again
It's not anyone's fault but MNR. Take away the loophole and the problem is solved.
hit a few suckers Right hear the other day
