I have a question for all the float fishermen that use spinning reels. When your float is going down river is your bail open or are you back reeling?

When I started I was using a spinning reel, I'd keep the bail open. Depending on how fast the current was, I'd let it pull out the line, if it was slow I'd gradually feed out line with my hand.

That is certainly the most common way. Another way is to keep the spool closed and keeping the rod tip high, follow your float downstream until your arm is pointed downstream, then open the bail and move your arm to point upstream, close the bail and do it all over again.
