So me and friends have been at it for 3 days now and so far no fishes. We've been to Humber Bay West, Humber Bay Marshes, and Tommy Thompson Park. All of the places clearly have fishes in them, as they keep prancing around mocking us. They would always be too far away from us. Is it even possible to shoreline fish in the 3 places above? We've been using plastic worms/crayfish and so far only one bite. Are we doing something wrong? Do we need a boat (cause that's the only way I see us being able to reach them)? It's frustrating when we've been looking for a sweet fishing spot, but instead we've been coming home disappointed, and often snagging a few hooks/baits in the process. We always go at 4pm and leave around 9pm, so for 5 hours we spend basically hooking nothing but twigs, branches and seaweed.

Any advice/help? Thanks.

plastic worms and crayfish are bass baits ant they are out of season.
try corn and you should catch some carp, or worm/roe for some returning trout.
good luck.

Think of what species you are targeting. There are different methods of angling for different species. Different locations and different times that work well for a particular species. For example, if you are targeting Steelhead in rivers, you'd want to pick a section that would hold fish during that time with the right conditions. So, it's really a game of planning.

You also can't go wrong using worms. All fish like worms. Either use a bobber and hook or weight so it is on bottom.

I'm not sure about buying roe, but there are a few places in Scarborough that might help....or maybe LeBaron?

To fish it, roe is tied into a bag, and then fastened onto the hook.

I would use a weight that way you know for sure it is on the bottom, too many times have I used a float and not caught anything because I estimated the depth of the water wrong. You might want to find a place that sells worms in the city, as when I go digging for them I only get 1 inch worms. Good Luck!

P.S just thoughts from a beginner

Since opener I finally got one. I decided to try casting a few times behind this bolder, with big dewworms that I found left by some other fisherman. I must have cast twenty or thirty times an fish on. My point is keep trying different things but never under estimate where they may be. Sometimes 1 foot, sometimes ten.

Tonight should be good to get out and pick lots of dew worms! (Decent rain)
Fortunately, I have about 3-4 dozen in the fridge already.

Picked them almost 2 weeks ago.
They will stay good for about 1 month....

Going to make the WORM WELL later in the fall, so I will have lots during winter.

*Best BAIT in the whole world!

Look through the many informatve posts on this site... figure out which fish species to target and study, keep going out and trying. Don't be afraid to ask, many anglers on ths forum are eager to help and I'm sure some would take you out and show you the ropes.

I agree, stick wth worms, the worm is the most effective bait around.

Try drop shotting some Slammers or rig up some Swammers.

Know your target.
Know your environment.

Both of these things require research research research.
When I first started fishing, I was using worms, leeches, plastics, cranks, you name it, ive used it. I purchased these baits based on what I think would work without any consideration of what the fish want.
I have gone to scugog, lake simcoe, rice lake, ontario, ponds and various streams/rivers and came home empty handed
I have been fishing for 5 years, and it was only last year that I began nailing fish after fish shore fishing..
You have to take the time to actually research about the gear, the behavior of fish, and the effect that weather has on them in order to be a successful fisherman.

Once you are bored of catching sunfish, do some research and you will be surprised at the simple mistakes you are making now as a beginner.
