Hey!

I'm looking to get myself a good reel. I tend to use braided line, and my current reel (low quality quantum reel) just can't handle it.

Was looking at the Abu Garcia Orra S - http://www.canadiant...m.jsp?locale=en

It's on sale and was just looking to see if anyone here has experience with this type of reel, and if so, how is it? Looking for an "all round" type deal, fish as large as pike, rainbows to browns and perch.

Looking forward to your comments!

Hi Winston,

Looks like a nice reel. It makes we want to get another spinner.
The only Abu Garcia I own ( for now ) is a bait caster & I absolutely love using it. If you can get to a Bass Pro, you can get your hands on every reel the store has in stock. This way if they have it, you can also try the models up or down which really helps in deciding if it feels good to you. Canadian Tire staff don't normally seem to have much knowledge on fishing gear but if it's not locked in a display case then put one on a rod in the store & play with it a bit. I spent 45 min at BP trying models from the low end right up to the top. For me I found that the $250 model felt as good as the top end. That was an expensive purchase but I do not regret it & unless something tragic happens to it & I expect to have it for a very long time.

I guess you won't see this for awhile until my posts get approved. I joined today so I'm in post limbo atm.

Here's a link to the reel at BP with a few reviews from people that purchased the Abu Garcia. Abu-Garcia-Orra-S

Replies appreciated.

I did end up getting the reel and I have to say, I absolutely love it. Cast beautifully, reels very smoothly. First day of using it, caught a couple northern pike (6/7 lbs), and several other varieties of fish throughout the past couple of weeks with no problems.

My 2 cents, if you're looking for a reel for less than $100.00, grab it. Satisfaction guaranteed.

Now I'm hoping the weather clears up, been nearly a week with no fishing! :(

Glad you're happy with your purchase. I'll hold off on new gear this year as I have enough to equip 3 people. It's hard not grab something when those great deals come up. I'll use my CT cash for line or a lure if I need it this year.

The weather right now is a bit cool & overcast, ( Sunday morning ) but should be ok for fishing. Hmm, should I stay or should I go ??? lol
