killing any living thing... mammal or bird or fish just to kill it because you believe it doesn't have a place in the local eco system goes against many religious beliefs and ethics.
"The sea lamprey is an invasive, eel-like fish that entered the Great Lakes through canals and was well established by 1938. Since 1956, a successful international control program has used barriers, trapping and lampricides that kill sea lamprey larvae. The number of lamprey has plunged almost 90 per cent from peak numbers in the 1960s, allowing populations of native fish such as lake trout and whitefish to recover."
Directly from the MNR website.
The MNR advocates dispatching all round gobies that anglers catch and not throwing them back into the water.
Are you going to tear up your fishing license, quit fishing, and join PETA now?
when you guys start posting pics of trout and salmon that you catch and the MNR see where your fishing i will bet they will be checking out your fishing practices after your promotion of killing and wasting fish.
NADO's efforts are aimed at preserving our environment, wetlands, waters, flora and fauna, not destroying. As far as I remember, he doesn't even harvest roe, he advocates buying it.
The difference in opinion is based on the fact that some take carp as invasive, and hence the actions they call for are exactly how the MNR and other organizations handle invasive species, and others do not consider them invasive. Either group is entitled to their beliefs, and to a rational debate that does not stoop to childish personal attacks the way many of you are doing.
I respect hammercarp's and CAG's right to form an organization such as CAG and support its mandate, and I am more or less neutral on the issue. I have never caught a common carp, and if I did I would release it. Yes, some members seemed to be quite vocal against CAG on this forum, but they never resorted to mindless personal attacks. Telling them to MTOB is fine, even though it's their right to voice their opinions, which happen to be against CAG's mandate.
But enough with the personal attacks
