Hey folks,
Looking for some help. I'm taking my girlfriend fishing for the first time and I was hoping for some location suggestions. We are pretty limited to bikes and TTC, locations in downtown Toronto, no further west than the Humber or further east than the Don or Cherry beach.
Target species would be anything really. I was thinking carp cause we could find a spot, chuck out some corn and have a glass of wine while we wait. I don't want to make her walk around a whole bunch the first time out, so anywhere that has a nice grassy spot to put down a blanket and a picnic would be ideal. I know the islands are great, but busy. I was thinking of Humber Bay park, but haven't seen any reports out of there recently. Has anyone had any luck at Grenadier recently, or is it too damned hot?
To complicate matters I want to teach her to fly cast (while we wait for the carp), so anywhere with open space would be great.
Basically: nice spot, decent chance of catching something, accessible by bike or ttc

Hey Cam,
If your heading out in the weekday, the islands arent too busy. Pretty well any of the canals/channels have carp. There's also lots of nice "private" areas with shade and some room to practice fly casting.
The Quandrum, has been the HEAT and the Recent Rain downpour.
Some areas have gone "Milky"... and other areas are still experiencing record low water.
I have not been to Grenadier .. since the KIDS FISHING DAY, but it sure does get real weed infested and stagnant during these hot days.
I know you mentioned, you'd just be practicing FLY CASTING ... and the best times to "CATCH" would be early morning or late evening.
Taking into account, all your considerations ...
1. Ease of access
2. Room to pratice Fly Casting
3. Place to set a line for Carp
4. Shade, ROMANCE (Glass of wine)
I would give the Islands the most consideration. The ferry ride is short and fun, dont have to walk to far to find a nice little spot (Even on Centre Island), nice grass & shade .... etc.
I totally get your drift when it comes to the "not wanting to drag her all over the place" lol Even during some of the HEAT WAVES of the past couple of weeks ... I was walking MILES along the harbourfront walls and marinas. Good for me, but not that perfect "Cup of Tea" to be dragging along others.
Right now, I have plans to go fishing on THURSDAY with a fellow member of OFF. I'm tearing my hair out ... trying to decide on what places and locations would HOPEFULLY be best.
We were thinking of hitting the Upper Grand (North of Guelph - Elora) Forks of Credit etc.
"Problem is"... Deep down, I'm worried about water levels etc.
My friend is a real nice guy, and totally understands that these conditions will affect our outing ... but there's always that "inner desire" to want to pick the best spot possible.
It's driving me crazy! lol
Stick to the Islands for now, and if on the most part things work out to a great day together ... you know she will join you later on more adventurous outings.

Leslie spit but i've never been on a hot summer day. Lot's of carp there. I might need your advice on how to bring the ladies to go fishing...jk!
