Hi guys, now I know this pic is bad. I was with my best bud fishing for Bass on the local lake we had no luck all night on our Berkley, and it was getting kinda dark. My buddy has this chair and I resorted to targeting crappies as he resorted to sleeping, we both had our lines out and he said, "You're hooked on my line buddy," to which I replied with a. "Like hell I am." No sooner had I finished saying this when his drag started screaming across the lake. We looked at each other and said Carp!(Which would have been a first for both of us,) I ran for the camera. Now when I get to this point I want to add, I am sorry we landed this Monster how we did, but I just bought my net this weekend after realizing the probability at catching one of these monsters is pretty good where we go. The line peeled and ran, he reeled and watched as I hurried to retrieve the camera, this was the biggest fish either of us had ever caught and we knew it was huge, the fight lasted ten minutes on 4 pound test and a 5'6" rod. The result was a catfish as long as my arm and as heavy as my cat, my buddy beached her and she snapped the line, I knew I had to stop it from reaching the water, we needed to prove this event with documented evidence I used my foot to keep it ashore as it tried very very very hard to get back to the lake. It was a team effort and this is the fruit of our labour. I want to add I am sorry the fish is dirty, and I feel horrible he stopped its escape but this is a beautiful fish!! Thanks for the views, I am off to catch me a carp so my buddy can't keep bragging he has the record among us.

Yes def a Channel Cat. Nice one too. I love catching Cats here in Hamilton in the harbor and in the Grand. They can certainly put up a fight.
I can catch them all day and not complain. They do get bigger than that one too.
My Pb is about 12 lbs, but I hear they get them around 20 at Dunnville.

In Quinte, 25+ were common. I have not seen one that big in a very long time. Even the 5lber I caught gave a good fight.

They are much better eating then bullheads. The meat on these are very smooth and yummy.....lol. No weedy taste to them either.

Catfish are one of the Strongest Fish in the waters.

Dont worry too much about always having "perfect catch & release techniques"...
Just keep trying to do your best and let the circumstances deal what they do.

Most fish will "Clean themselves" by brushing through rocks, weeds etc.
They also regenerate their Slime Coats on a daily basis.

Nice Fish! Hope you get into a 10 lbs+ one of thers days....

Thanks everyone for all of your help and support. I appreciate it and have been trying very, very hard to catch up to my buddy with a carp of similar weight to no avail. This is still the PB in our group of young twenty something guys but we're relentless and motivated! Thanks again all I really appreciate the ID, good luck and tight lines.

Thats a nice channel cat. In the spring you should fish below the dam in dunnville and you can catch the cats while they are spawning. The range in size from 1lbs to 40lbs and if you get one of the fish that are four feet long you are in for a fight!
