Can anyone tell me the best line to use for Texas rigs to pull through heavy weeds?

Any help would be great...

For the Weeds ... (You said "Heavy Cover") a decent BRAID LINE.


20 lbs + (20, 30 or 40)



I personally think anything of a higher weight is overkill, but to each their own.

The heavier the line (Even though it''s thin Braid) - remember to be using a ROD that can take it.


Dont want to SNAP a $100 rod for a $5 lure.

Because braided line is thinner than most lines, does it wear down usually quicker than other lines? like do you find them to snap sometimes or do they hold up just as strong as regular fluorocarbon line?

I usually google what people think but its hard to know what you get on websites versus personal experience !

I use mono on most reels, but have one reel with fluoro, braid is way to expensive to be of any use I find.

40-50lb braid for texas rig i heavy cover.

is a texas rig only used "in" weed beds or can it be used effectively along weed lines or even rocky areas?

if I am using a soft plastic crawfish, swim bait or senko with the exception of wacky rigging I rig texas style. So to answer your question: It can be used effectively along weed lines and rocky areas.

the reason to use braid while flipping is the sensitivity it provides same as when jigging. attatch a flourcarbon leader using a nail knot

I have a nice Ugly Stick that should do the trick.
Fishing Rice Lake next week and told it's very weedy in some areas on the south shore where I'm staying. ( near Gores landing). Any suggestions on colour for the line?
I know to each his own, just wondering if it makes a difference on this lake. Never fished there before.

generally high vis braid is good it allows you to visualize where the line enters the water easier, watch for the line to "jump" when a fish hits the jig/rig on the fall. attatch a mono/flouro leader to the braid when fishing on pressured lakes.

the nail knot is best i find to attach leaders to braid without a swivel put a double granny knot on the braid to start then tie a snell onto the braid with the leader material.
