Have a few ideas in mind. Just curious if everyone attending has waders?

That should be a pre-requisite, though Float Down is right in saying that you don’t need em at the cemetery run. Don’t need em at the trailer park run either.

Also October 13th wouldn’t strike me as a dead day, mid-october should be bringing in a fair amount of steelhead. My only wonder is if they will be hanging out in the shallows at the trailer park like they do in spring when they are spawning. Maybe deeper water would be better but we can certainly branch off and report back.

I would also be in favor of a week day if at all possible. I would take the day off mid week, or even a monday to make it a long weekend to scale down the crowds a bit.

I am thinking they will be sittin in deeper water for sure, but there are 5 or 6 good holes between the corner and the pillars. And if you guys want it to be a weekday I'm sure we can get that going, although like I said earlier, there's never to much pressure on the cemetery side. For those of you who haven't been there, it's a hike and a half down the hill. Anyone who is going, PM me with your e-mail's and I'll hook you up with a map and for you guys who are experienced, let me know if you'll take a rookie under your wing, or we can just wing it once we get there.

Weekday would work too, it will still be busy, but not as bad as a Saturday. If those spots don't require waders I'm totally up for it. I was just thinking maybe some of you guys would want to wade out to around the island if the water isn't too high

17' ... omg! lol

The Geen's big, but on any Trib found locally - you can practically be on the other side with that length.

Special Cookies? lol (I like peanut butter)
Depending what you "Add" its either one of two scenarios: Sleep or Kinda "feel groovy".... *SMILES*

If you dont do much fishing for them, theres no point in getting a very technique specific rig. Any 10-12 foot med-light powered, slow-moderate action rod will do. Something like a 4-10 or a 6-12. Good for bottom bouncing, drifting with floats or chucking hardware. Large spinning reel with a good drag and 10lb mono or braid. Thats got you covered for most stuff, trout, salmon or any shore fishing for that matter. Go into your local atckle shop give them those specs and then its just a matter of choosing something in your price range. And FYI, a 7' med action rod out at the geen for salmon and steelhead is pretty much useless IMHO, no matter how strong your line is.

Agreed, longer rod will be beneficial in terms of setting the hook from a far distance and protecting leaders.

Also would recommend you pick up some fluorocarbon leader. If your'e going to be float fishing, bigger floats would be beneficial as you can add more weight to get your presentation deeper quicker in the fast current. Personally I use 10G+ on bigger water like that. and 6-10lb drennan leader. Even the smaller fish feel like monsters in that fast flow.

Careful with the steelhead and salmon fishing. Once you get into it, there's no getting out lol

I was just wondering if the choice was purposeful. I'm certainly not afraid of tough conditions and in 22 years of chasing Oncorhynchus and Mykiss you can bet I've fished them. There is a slow time on the Gbay and huron tribs and if I had to make an educated guess I'd say this date would be in the middle of it. not much pressure there till a hundred OFF guys show up lol

This certainly sounds like an interesting day. But to say that there is a slow time for the rainbows on the Saugeen. Last year by the middle of October the rainbows were in at a local fish ladder about 50+ km upstream from Southampton. I think October 13 is a great time.
