Well considering how many stogies I've dropped in the soup, that's probably not a bad idea (for me). My goal this year is to master smoked salmon. But I sure can use some help catching them.

My pit is 8' long. Anyone wanna try smoking their catch, you know where to find me. No offense to those who are strictly CNR.

I'll have to say i always wanted to get into steelhead fishing just hard to learn from YouTube :P and I know if you get into the shallows your gunna end in the deep :D so it only a matter of time until I get a proper fly combo or a spinner/reel combo for trout and salmon.

Do some research so you get exactly what you want so you won't need to keep upgrading. It can get quite expensive really quickly <_<.

The Saugeen River ... Caught many fish here over the years and also have been sent home without any fish .
One time on November 21 st. we set out for the Saugeen for the weekend , after fighting our way through a forever lasting snow squall ... we arrived at the river , only to be sent packing again by the intense winds blowing up river . The snow was thick , my float was so caked in ice it wouldn't float anymore and that wind froze everything that got wet .... waders , reels and skin .
We opted on forgeting about fishing that day and spent the afternoon swapping stories and having a drink or four . We awoke bright and early to hit the river at dawn ... lol... we couldn't open the trailer door . Snow was drifted solid up against the door and we had to spend a little extra time to eventually push the door open ... then to get the cars out and ..... well we ended up on the river a bit late , the sun was shining and one of us ( not me ) caught a Steelhead hen , just one ... and then we went home ... the end.
The moral of this story is ... although we set out to slay the river and hook alot of Steelhead , we didn't , but we were together and had a blast doing it . There will be days when nothing goes right ... but , there will always be days you will shine . Let's hit the Saugeen as friends unseen , fish ? maybe - maybe not ... we'll have an educational day for all and it will be memorable ... yes , I think it will .

Question for Float down... (as you are leading this trip, which was an excellent suggestion  )

Is this going to be (as the title suggests) a trip for the members who provide (or have provided) site content.. ie: Fishing experiences, pictures, general FAQ's..
Or
Is this an open "casting" (pun) call for all board members?
:?: :?:

Ninja Edit: Great post Notta

By Heart Lake in Brampton.

An older fella I met on the Notty couple weeks ago told me he usually saves the older fish for smoking (didn't get an idea of what he meant by older). He's gotta be in his mid-70's and knew a helluva lot about the fish there so I got no reason to doubt him. Some of you Notty regulars probably know him.

Believe it or not .. NADO .. most 4 to 5 yr. old salmon are younger than alot of the Steelhead out there .
If you can get a chrome firm fish out of Huron , being a salmon won't matter , it will smoke fine .

Im more so referencing the fact that they are coming up river to spawn and die, not to appetizing to me. I also likely wouldnt keep a 10lb rainbow. I typically like them 5 lbs or less(3lbs is perfect for me). Id consider keeping a river salmon that was absolutely chrome but once they start to lose the silver I just dont think I could bring myself to eat one.
