Got this fish from the boat in lake Ontario with blue silver cleo can someone help me identify this fish? I think it is Atlantic my brother thinks it is rainbow/steelhead

Luckily it's a bow, you can't legally fish for atlantics, and definatley can't keep them.

Thanks I'm glad it is not Atlantic because i brought it home.
I don't want to be a poacher.
I was not sure because this fish was very long and had forked fin. I had steel heads before but this one was a bit different.

Yes you can if it was caught in zone 20 and greater than 63 cm, limit one but i,m just making sure. because i would feel really bad that i got Atlantic i wold release it in zone 20.
My brother was 100% sure it was a BOW so i took it home

hahahah i did not want you guys to know where my honey hole is.
This one was pure luck salomon were jumping 2 feet from us but no luck at all and i got this one just about when we were leaving.

The Lake Ontario Atlantic Salmon Recovery Team will be settingbenchmarks for the future management of stream fisheries and harvest.

should you really be keeping a fish if you don't know what species it is?

Zone 20 is open all year
If you have regulations for 2012 you will see it as last zone.

Firstly, I never said you could KEEP or TARGET THEM.
No worries
And the info regarding the LAKE ONTARIO REGS comes directly off the BRING BACK THE ATLANTIC SALMON site.
It is endorsed by the government, it's sponsors and the MNR, and other REPUTABLE groups.
Doesnt mean it's CORRECT! (perfect world) but I figure it is.
I could not find any other info.
I CLEARLY STATED the REGS from the MNR: CLOSED SEASON!
ps: You should always READ the REGS, and then PHONE the MNR DIRECTLY when in doubt.

For a POINT of CONVERSATION:
Considering they are stocking the ATLANTICS in the CREDIT and DUFFINS (good example of well known fished tribs) ...
Then what is the protocal here?
(Other than immediate catch and release!)
What I mean is this:
Anyone who could legitimately explain to me a technique to "Avoid" catching an ATLANTIC when fishing for: Chinnies, Brooks, Browns, Bows etc..
DESERVES a phd in icothology and Regulation Interpretation.
IF the reasoning to ENTIRELY STOP FISHING because there may be an ATLANTIC caught, then do they CLOSE the FISHERY?
Just looking for opinions....
My thoughts are that I would continue doing what I have been doing for 40+ years (While targeting Trout in the Tribs, under the current regs-techniques, baits) , and release the fish if caught.
* This spring at DUFFINS - the "Fingelings" were hitting: Small roe bags, worms, spinners ... flies , and I was certainly not STOPPING FISHING the trib. Neither were the OTHER 500+ guys...
REAL LIFE SITUATIONS!
