Redwing has their own center pin out and it has a drag system they're also giving away a few, any comments on it? or does anybody know anything else about it? about a year ago I was interested in a pin with a drag system then i found out that they cost about $600 so i lost interest, this one is about $400

Thanks CC, what are your thoughts on a pin with a drag, pros?.... cons?....

I really like the idea, makes everything more manageable as far as I'm concerned...but I'm not willing to pay $1200 for an AS.

RiverNinja is right. Once you learn to properly palm the reel while fighting a fish you won't need a drag system. But then again there's Okuma's sexy new Sheffield DRII complete with a drag system http://i50.tinypic.com/1ou881.gif

Hahahaha man is that thing ever sexy! Screw buying a pin for practicality, looks mean everything! If it came in black and green I'd go get one tomorrow. Haha!

And piju, these boys are right, once you get comfortable with palming, and putting tension on the reel with your fingers, you'll find there's no drag system like your own.

X4. Once you get it down it's the best. In my books it's half the challenge. 1/2 hooking 1/2 landing.

Learn to pin properly and you won't ever want a drag system on any reel... -truth..

That is when your are out on those really cold days or trying to land a big fish all by yourself
The drag does come in handy at times

Matter of choice I guess--I'm a third generation float fisherman (learned on the canals in the old country) and can pin as efficiently as the next guy...

Still would like a drag system...

I wouldnt mind a drag system, you always have the choice to turn it on or leave it off once you have a hookup.

i fish in all conditions my drag system is my finger. seriously if i want a drag i'll take my spinning reel. remember in the winter u always gotta have a special bottle to keep u warm

Aside from the Angling Specialties Anti-Reverse model, the “drag” on every other model of float reel out there (ie. Angling Specialties regular drag, Okuma Sirata, Clough, River Run) is nothing more than an adjustable clicker. You can turn it off and leave it in free-spool mode while you drift and fight fish.

Personally, I never understood why so many anglers scoff at the idea of having a drag system on a float reel yet complain about how weak their clickers are on their own reels…

The only time I have my drag engaged on my AngSpecs is when I walk from spot to spot or I’m unhooking a fish.

I guess part of the allure of using a pin is the whole idea of applying the drag yourself. I think I might take that comment back lol, though it would be nice to have the drag option in the winter months when your hands are too cold to apply the drag anymore.
