Hey Guys,

I'm very knew to this forum, never been a part of any before to be honest, glad to be on here none the less. Anyways, I was curious about anyones opinions on Fly Fishing for chrome. I'm looking into 8wt rods, they should do the trick for Lake Ontario tribs, but when it comes to the proper reel, I'm at a loss. Any suggestions or preferences will be GREATLY appreciated. Basically any tips at all, because i am in fact, a complete newbie in terms of any sort of trout or salmon fishing. Lines, leaders, and flies for steelhead (i know it sounds a tad redundant, I'm not trying to steal your secrets, just learn some basics to get my feet, [for lack of a better word] wet) I know very little about. Again, any information will be much appreciated!

i gonna have to agree cc is the man to talk to when you need help with hitting chorme on the fly i know lots about fly fishing and am a fly gear nut but still learning about chorme on the fly

leech patterns and egg patterns are a good place to start. there is lots of posts with recipies in them if you look back a bit

I can tell you fly fishing for steelhead isn't exactly a numbers game, but with practice it can work out nicely

I have fly fished for years and know quite a bit about salmon and steelhead fly fishing.
Salmon:
Egg patterns, pink, orange
Bright, big attractors

Steelhead:
Bright, big attractors
Larger dry flies

Definitely an 8, 9 or ten weight rod. The steelhead aren't really in yet, they are usually a bit later than the salmon. In a couple of weeks you should be able to catch steelhead. Fish for the steelhead at the caledonia dam or at bean park in paris. On the trout season opener there are still steelhead in whitemans creek and you can fish for them there. The salmon are still at the mouths of rivers and in harbours.

Heya Cat:

8 wght. is fine--10 wght is saltwater...
I fish 6 wght for steelhead...plenty of rod unless you're on really big water with big, hot fish...
Check your choice of flies brother...might be other options
