Reptiles and amphibians are taking such a kicking world-wide that I will not use live frogs or toads for bait.
In this day and age with the fantastic life-like baits out there it simply is not necessary in a time when they are struggling to stay alive/breed.
If you are on the north shore of Lake Erie you have to remember that the Fowler Toad lives in this region and is listed as a Threatened Species so say you had one of them on a hook thinking it was the common American Toad and the MNR stopped by.... game over, big time.
hope I don't sound "preachy" but i feel the day of using live frogs and toads is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy over. Some species are getting harder and harder to find in Southern Ontario and the role they play in local ecosystems is huge.

As mentioned, rarely will this outfish other types of live bait or artificials.

Only northern leopard frogs are a permissible species for use as bait. The possession limit is one dozen.
As mentioned, rarely will this outfish other types of live bait or artificials.
I have heard before of people breeding northern leopards and selling them as bait too anglers. Is this legal? I've never met anyone who did this just wondering if I came across someone selling them if it would be a legal purchase..

I remember when I was kid using them. Worst part was there little hands grabing you and trying to push away. You could feel there little fingers. Not a chance I would have the heart to do that now even if it were legal
Just hearing that makes me not want to do it even more!
