Haven't had much luck with spoons but I always toss them for awhile.... I've had more action with J-13's.
Always have to mix it up I guess.

Pretty much all my success has been on spoons of one sort or another. I am hoping I can get out again this week, but who knows.

Headed out early this AM, simply because after I caught that Nook on Tuesday, I have been jonesing to go fishing again. I have too much work through the day, so I figured I could head up in the early morning and still be back for work. Sadly, there was no action there at all. It was good to get out though, even though it was quite cold.

I must have just missed you. I headed down to St. Clair last night to musky fish today but the lake was blown ... again. So we headed back and decided to check out Bayfield arriving just after noon and fished until 5 or so. My buddy went 1/2 landing a nice steelhead while floating a worm at the pier. We had to borrow a net as ours was only 3 ft long. Figured it was a nice gesture so we gave the guy the fish.I tossed spoons and cranks most of the day and didn't get a hit. It was a beautiful day and sure beat sitting at a desk.

I'm really not sure what it is. I think coho since there were no spots on the tail. Lots of jumping, but not a long fight.

Caught this today in Bayfield. A good 40+ minute fight. I thought it would be much bigger, but it is still much better than being skunked.

Thanks for the update Rileysowner. I am gonna head up there Saturday to try my luck. Have you heard if any Nooks are getting past the 21 bridge?

Thanks
Dale

That I don't know, I took both the nook and the coho off the pier, I have seen splashing above the bridge, but not a lot. The river is very low, so if they are heading up they would not be getting far.

I'm heading up to the pier for a couple of hours this afternoon with a friend and his son.

Had a good time fishing, but didn't catch anything. I sort of expected that, but you never know. The water levels are really low, down probably 6-8" or more from two weeks back. We really need rain out this way to get the river up for more fish to come in. I didn't see anyone else getting any, although I saw a couple jump.

yup was the same here, went with a few friends, nothing was happening on Saturday, and I agree, the water level is way low. Will likely get out this weekend for a bit. Hopefully we get rain this week

I know last year the season in the bayfield river was extended. Is that still in effect for this year?

great fish but wow a 40 minute fight?? Ive caught fish much bigger in much much less time...IMO you're not using the proper set up if it takes that long to land..also when you're fighting a fish like that 5 minutes can seem like an hour...good fish nevertheless

I fish light line, and frankly unlike the coho I caught a few days later, it fought the whole time. No change in setup and the coho which was about the same size to about 10 minutes. Go figure. I thought it would be a lot larger than it was when I finally got it in.

I wanna go sunday and maybe even stay over night in a tent somewhere near the elbow, hope its not too cold! There has been a higher power trying to prevent me from getting my line wet this season i swear it, im hoping my string of problems popping up stops.

I was hoping to get up yesterday with the rain we had their would likely have been some action, but didn't have a chance.

There are usually a number of people at the bridge once the likelihood of the salmon coming up river starts. Other than the pier, it is the easiest point to access for those who don't want to walk the river bank. Right now it is basically about there that many salmon are sitting waiting for the water level to come up, so no surprise there are crowds. Overall the crowds have not been as bad as I have seen in previous years. At least, not so far.
