One day when I was perch fishing down at port Glasgow I caught a little goby and the lady next to me said I should kill it because it is an invasive species. Should I have killed it?
It was so small i can't see what kind of damage it would do. What should I do if i catch them? Just post your feedback.

Yeah, you'll feel better about yourself, but the truth is, Dang gobies are here to stay. Kill em, just to show the world how mad you are, but know that it's a lost cause...

However, studies are showing that sport fish are feeding of them (winning!)
I used one as bait once--bad pj.... I caught a pike. I ate the pike. Circle of life I guess... But don't say I told you to use it...

They hurt fish populations and it's illegal to release them so I guess you can feed them to the seagulls or something :)

I just throw them on the ground

This is a funny thread.

Kill Kill Kill!!!!

Invasive vs. Non Invasive vs. Life

Who here is actually native?

Or has our "impact" been forgotten? We're all immigrants (invasive).

Or rather we care more about our "target" species.

So, let's think about the grand scheme of things before we go insane over various species of "invasive" fish. Do your homework.

[EDIT]

Forgot to mention that I am not native... just realistic.

lol it looks like there is hope after all. Here I was thinking that this forum was turning into a tree hugging, pro-invasive groupie hangout. Glad to see im wrong.

If you look at post #24 in the link Noob posted you will find a great outline of how to kill kill kill a Goby properly.

I'm still a little unclear. Are you an advocate for or against the killing of invasive round gobies?

Seriously though, it's not much effort to toss them to the seagulls, and if we all do so, it will help control their population even if only slightly. Unless the seagull flies off with it, and drops it live in another body of water!

Seriously? You arent sure what NADO's view is on invasive species??lol

Kill Kill Kill

If you give em to seagulls just kill it first and theres nothing to worry about.

It's a clear example of adaptive strategies in a Darwinian sense...we are at the top of the evolutionary food chain, we are deliberative, we have "constructed" nature to be more natural than nature herself...the earth is a giant footprint of our evolutionary prowess...since the introduction of sapiens as an invasive (and virulent) species everything else has been at our behest and design...

So...out with carp, gobies, salmon, steelhead, carrier pigeons, the dodo et al...eventually................................

Small discrepancy there Chase.

Carp and Gobies are invasive while salmon and steelhead are non-native. I could entertain an argument for Chinny's being invasive though.

No discrepancy...our allowance of certain species is arbitrary and deliberative...it's an Enlightenment argument I'm marshalling here bro.

immigrants are like the trout species that are not native to our waters--fun to hang with and just dandy in my books
goby is like the dude that removed your mailbox with his snowplow at 61 mph last winter....

But there is a difference between an invasive species and a non-native species. At least in the biology field there is.
