Ok everyone I have decieded that I want to try to get into some float fishing and I think it would be best to get a proper reel and rod but want some advice for a starter. First off if I am going to use it to fish faster and bigger waters like the niagara, st. clair, or Port Dalhousie but will also try smaller creeks and rivers is this a good idea to get one and what should I be looking for in rod size. As for reels I am looking at this one on sale, I know it is not a raven or islander but as I am new to this maybe its a good way to start, OKUMA AVENTA VT-1000 FLOAT REEL,OKUMA AVENTA VT-1000-BUSH. Or I can go the other way and buy used and maybe get into the better reels. Any advice is welcome, as I have been a spinning rod and reel user for 25 years this is so different from what I am used to buying but after reading all your stories and watching guys get into fish with these setups makes me want to try it out.

I'd buy used and get a used islander or something along those lines. If you end up enjoying pinning you're bound to upgrade to something higher end in the future. For big water 13-15' rods are the norm and for smaller it's usually around 11'. I'd suggest you go with a 13' as it will be fine to use in both smaller and bigger waters.
