So I decided on the okuma s1002 in either silver or black just looking for where it's the cheapest to get it. And since I'm in school now I can fish the oshawa creek everyday after school anyone know a company that has good life time warranty on their rods for floats?

Shimano Clarus 13' dude. Less than 90 bucks and guaranteed for life. It is without question the best bang for the buck. The best part is it's 4 pieces and still has great sensitivity and a decent backbone.

Saw an amundson float reel tonight. Nothing fancy, cheap though. Good entry reel. Buying used can be risky as we've all heard about recently. (Unless you know what to look out for)

You should look into streamside rods. Start around $80.

Don't buy a rod with a fixed reel seat tho. I believe it's important to customize your own feel for your setup.

I bought the okuma Sheffield last year as my first pin and I love it. I paired it with the 13'6 raven rod. I believe an IM6 model. The price for this combo was very reasonable and both Products are durable. If I take some care of them I expect they will last a long time.

I have this rod, IM-8, fuji guides, good sensitivity, a bit on the light side as far as backbone IMO but I have had no problems fighting salmon in the creeks with it at all.

My setup is pretty beginner (Matrix + Clarus) but I would choose to upgrade the reel over rod first as far as my personal experience thus far.

I would probably lean away from a four piece myself. I have a three piece 13 footer and the only thing I like about it is that its easier to get into my car. You want to rig your setup the night before to save you time in the morning as well as not have to re-rig between spots and the less pieces in your rod the better.

Wait I just had a thought. Does a four piece break down the same as a two piece if you want??

lol ive just never made that connection. Always just struggled with my 3 piece, you dont see very many 4 pieces out there. I think id still prefer a 2 or 3 piece though.

However, if centerpinning is what you desire, there's a few recommendations I would make.
The steelheader is a fantastic reel, but it breaks the bank. Buy an Okuma Aventa and swap out the bearings for ceramic ones and u have an amazing reel IMO. Or just spend the extra 40$ish and get the Okuma Sheffield. You can actually buy a combo online for ~245$ for the Okuma Aventa Rod & Reel.

anyone know where they carry that raven RV9?? or know how much it is? i checked gagnon and they only have up to the IM8, how is that compared to the rv9. i cant seem to find a supplier for the rv9

lol...Its a great rod though; works well on small to large fish....it has a great warranty....I have had no regrets about purchasing the RV9...

If you want a good warranty it's going to cost. Gotta pay to play. Raven warranty is awesome, blew up my IM8 and had another tip section within two weeks.
