Went steelhead fishing during the week. Was there almost all morning and didn't get a single bite,I was using salmon roe as a bait wrap in an egg sac net. Around noon a guy set up right beside me and right away he caught one. After putting a new bait and casting it, he got another one. Went over and asked him what bait he was using , and he said salmon eggs. So went back to my spot and continue fishing. After 4 fish this guy has caught, went over and ask him if I can see his bait, maybe I did something wrong . Or tied my egg bad. He had his roe in a container with what looks like a blue Ink. He said its pautzke nectar made from salmon egg juice. Tried his bait and in about 10 minutes I got my first steelhead of the day. Anyone tried this stuff? Does it actually work? Or was it just a coincidence that the fish started biting around that time?

I have been Making my own for year now... lol

When ever you hear me using STINKY/GOOEY Eggs for NIGHT FISHING, .... basically thats what i mean.

If you Cure some eggs/ skein with Sea Salt in jar - the salt sucks out the inner egg goe.

I save this stuff and put in a separate jar.

I will BATH my Tied Roe bags in this stuff before I head out at night ....

I personally believe that PRESENTATION (Which of course includes SCENT) is the single most important factor in CONSISTANT STEELHEADING with success.
On clear water (Gin Days) in Daylight .... the natural drift, the actually look of the bait (Single Egg, colour, light leader ... are the significant factor)

At NIGHT - Scent is KING!

However, during the day ... having a great scent cant hurt ... can it.

Dont "Over Rate the Stuff" (As you can see, many extremely SUCCESSFUL STEELHEADERS on this board ... probably dont use the stuff... but every little "piece" has it's place in the puzzle)

GOOD LUCK!

*Order some and try it out - or do like I do and make your own.
2 Years ago I bought a BLENDER at VALUE VILLAGE just for the purpose of "Juicing Eggs"

Try it!

*SMILES*

Thanks a lot for the reply Blair. Very informative.

Your welcome.... You may also find this interesting as well;
it is about YARN BALLS.

Another extremely effective method while steelheading.

*Dont be surprised if some idiots accuse you of Flossing by using this method.

West coast steelheaders who have been doing it for years. (And I have used it very successfully on Salmon as well here on the Tribs)

Thx for clearing that up, Blair. When you mentioned 'stinky roe' in another thread I had assumed you meant you had left the roe out of the fridge for a while and let it 'ripen'.

It looks like an outfit in King City called Fish Ont. sells the stuff. I'm going to try to get some. I want to try it on roe bags as well as on the little pom-poms that I got at the buck shop rather than on yarn.

Stuff looks good. Probably would work really well if you put it on yarn and fished it.

Bass Pro in Vaughn had a couple of bottles when I was in last week. Cant remember whether it was $6.99 or $9.99 bottle.

You can find it at the Salmon/Steelhead rods next to the counter where they have all the reels along the counter.

I'm trying to get some time and drop in this afternoon so I will check and see if they have any left.

Does anyone know if Wal Mart has the nectar for sale or just the eggs? I made my own single Coho salmon eggs last night after watching some Pautzke video's online. Boiled the eggs ofcourse but added a few secret ingredients to improve the quality of the eggs. I want to add the scent to the eggs to make em even more deadly!

probably depends which walmart but where I am, i don't think they do. but canadian tire does. better check online if they have it on a particular store. some does, some don't.

and by the way, i caught my first steelhead on salmon eggs with 1 pink bead. and the egg was left in my bag for 2 days when it's supposed to be kept frozen. but steelhead still went for it. idk why.

Thanks rich! Saved me some time, on the pautzke videos they say products can be found in all wal mart stores but it looks like that is only in the US. A quick search on the Canadian tire site turned up 10 different Pautzke products available including the Nectar. Ill have to pick up some of the eggs for some product research too. Methinks the ones I made last night will be better.

no problem. i believe the salmon eggs of pautzke are already marinated in the nectar but i could be wrong. they also sell the "seasoning". balls of fury is what they call it i think. most people i met said they're better than atlas mike's. but haven't used them yet.

Garbage website says they carry them....the guy at the store looked them up for me and found that all of the stores in the area have never carried this product. If anyone knows where I might find this in Waterloo region let me know!
