Nice shots FD, my gf needs to hurry up and pick a DSLR for herself so I can borrow it ASAP!
Haha, make sure not to ruin it next time you accidentally go for a swim.

I love taking pictures so i want the best possible picture of these awesome fish i have a few pretty good point and shoot cameras but they still don't come close to an slr.
Hey FD, was that you and your buddy at the western trib this past Saturday landing that insane female chrome in the pool between the 2 rapids?
I recognize the Imperial Trooper gear and your buddy pulling out the DSLR.
I joined you guys late and was disgusted at the 2 meat hunters on the west-shore whom both had 2 bows strung up.

I tried to educate one of them and informed him that there are MOE guidelines on the size/species of fish to keep/eat based on Lake/Trib and that he should read up on it.
I have seen it too many times where several anglers who treat the rivers like their personal fish market. I have witnessed 2 anglers in particular who would harvest 2 steels each for everyday of the week I was fishing.
This is only what I have seen that week I was off steelheading last November. Would not surprise me if they kept more for the other days I was not in the river.
KUDOS to you Porkpie for being a selective harvesting angler.
The real problem is with the limits in the Regs and the lack of enforcement.

Resource extraction and industrial manufacturing are huge threats too.
I am all for conservation but I think it is far better for the environment to keep a few small non-spawning or old and unhealthy fish than to support factory farmers... whether that's pork, cattle, or salmon. Unless you get your meat from an organic farmer or you are a vegetarian you may as well keep a few instead of going to the grocery store.
I also love the taste of fresh fish that I catch myself so maybe I'm biased but I do some research here and there and it has all confirmed the above so far.

I am not going to argue with you, however I wonder how long you have been steelheading. I suspect probably for the most part less than ten years. Clearly none of you remember the days when nearly every Georgian bay or Huron fish that was caught was killed. Clearly you've never seen several hundred caught and kept at the Ganny in a day. When I first started, this was the norm, and the fish are still here. Yes the limits have been reduced, yes a lot of angling organizations have done a lot of good work, but the fish are hardy! The limits as they are set now, are quite reasonable and it's doubtful they are having much impact on the fishery! If someone is keeping fish to eat, and staying within their possession limits at all times the. I am all for it! I'm a pickerel or panfish man myself for the plate but if someone wants to eat trout every week... Fill yer boots. Anyone over limiting, or keeping greater than their possession limits should be dealt with accordingly! There is too much emphasis out on this C.P.R b.s. there is nothing wrong with catch and release, until it becomes overbearing. No harm comes from keeping fish within the law!

I have heard many stories of " i remember when you could literally walk across the salmon/ trout there were so many" "wow you remember when there were fish here?" --the reason the limits were set is because people filled thier freezers with fish--gluttony created these regulations---in a percentage if they have gone down by 40%(for arguments sake) and they are not being renewed at even close to the depeletion rate wouldnt you agree that in a short while(relative to the world) we will be hanving this convo at a longos eating a 74 dollar piece of salmon or trout?
