where is the short walk on cooks? usually american vehicles to the train tracks in gilford. i was thinking Innisfil beach. perch in closer, whities and trout out a bit (or a quick sled or truck ride over to fox island)
i had a great year last winter for lakers and whities. fished from late jan to close. took my boat out on march 14 to where we "had" been ice fishin and hit 14 whities in 3 hours once i found them. i saw a lot of bigger (20+ pound) trout compared to previous years last winter, and the trollers seemed to do well this summer, so lets hope for some ice!!!

yup hitting the 9th would be good. no secret there and lots of ice roads with gradual slope in (do not need 4x4) given there is sufficient ice this year. i think we will be able to drive on it this year.

I should be good for this.

I'd like to see a list of things needed by some reg ice fishing guys so the guys that have never been don't come unprepared :)

Alas! Above seasonal temperatures are looming.

Details to follow regarding location, what to bring, carpooling, etc.

I am not too busy this week, will have time to hunker down and get this planned out. First things first, I'm going to get updates on ice conditions so we can plan based on that.

I am having a busier week than anticipated, traffic court trial tomorrow afternoon, otherwise shouldn't be too busy. We will possibly make this outing in the area you mentioned redneckchromer, no lake has been picked yet, suggestions are more than welcomed. If my research corroborates with yours, perhaps we can pick a Haliburton lake.

It is not looking very likely that January 20th will be a good date.

This week's temperatures on the plus side, are going to exasperate slushy conditions atop the ice. A lot of ice will melt, weakening whatever ice remains. This remaining ice, regardless of thickness, will be weaker than solid ice after a good cold spell.

Daytime highs well above 0 degrees, rain, and mild nights are all good reason to postpone this trip either towards the ending of January or into February.

Now we await colder temperatures, which will make for a much more enjoyable outing. I have the proper safety equipment to be out on less than perfect ice, but I'm sure most do not and as such I do not wish to compromise anyone's safety.
