I've had the pleasure to have met and fished with a few great guys, and a very few I won't see again. No one is perfect but no one wants to be with an obnoxious, condecending, or rude, arrogant jerk, least of all me. Here is a link how we can all be a good sportsman.

Unfortunately I'm not much for staying positive, trash talk is at an all time high, I don't take losing very well, when I win its certainly not classy, and my alcohol intake could be lower.

Thanks for read grubman. I just cannot figure out why a small, select few anglers get their back up when they see someone else with a pole in the same area. It must go back to a neanderthal instinct some of us still have.

it takes away the peacefulness of fishing--and for the most part you end up watching some dude fill a white bucket with fish no bigger than a keyfob.

Agreed, plus they let it go to their head that catching a fish with a certain method is some kind of special techique only they can master. I've noticed that everyone eventually finds their go to lure, it's just a matter of time and patience. Take two guys with the same outfit and lure, one will get more hits only b/c he's working or casting the lure into the fish's strike zone.
Not everyone has heard, knows or wants to live by the old Chinese Proverb.
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
The other idiom also comes to mind.
"There's plenty of fish in the sea." Often used to refer to women, but........
Some worry that if you show someone else how to catch they'll be out fished? How insecure is that?
When did fishing become a ego boosting pastime/sport? I'd much rather fish alone then to be around neanderthals like that, and I have for years. Fortunately there are a few members here that I have fished with and by combining our knowledge, we have all gained valuble skills. Not everyone is a good sport, but those that are are usually the most enjoyable company to be with.

grub rube quick day out there today. got one first drift at sun up in the spot and that was all the action we had, we walked the full loop too. Stopped in and got some high vis yellow on the way home

I have a theory that the egomaniacs excel at fishing and fail miserably at all other aspects of life.

I agree with you.
I'm gonna share something with you from Grub's advice. I use a rapala countdown in brown trout colour and count it down until it is a few feet off the bottom then start reeling.
I'd consider the majority of anglers good sports, and hope my friends would include me in that group.
