Ok. i see i stared up hot topic about CP. Now i need help. I'm looking to buy "landing net for steelhead" it has to be light so i can hang it on my west using magnet release (but big/long enough for steelhead) and safe for fish. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

they have the perfect long and narrow net at Bass Pro in the fly fishing area for under $25.

np guys. I also ran into a guy on the river that had a really strong retractable magnet that clipped to a loop behind his collar. He said the magnet was worth a bit more than the net itself but it really stepped up the convenience level.

I have that magnet $25.00 but no net :)

I'm also looking for a landing net. I'll have to take a look next time I'm at BassPro. That one looks pretty good, but I can't tell how big it is in the picture.

The description at B.p.s says its 9×20" so just under two feet in length.

yep and the mesh is around 8-10" deep so fish up to 30" are manageable if they go in head first.

I like these new rubber nets. They're super easy on the fish and the fish doesn't get all tangled up. It's kinda like a basket.

i use this one. from BP. the basket is 18 inches long. not so good for fish over like 27-28inches, but rules on those like 3 to 7 pounders that can be hard to get a grab on sometimes. getting the bigger one next year

Well, I'm looking for a net that is easily portable, but will fit Steelhead up to 40 inches. There have been too many 30+ inchers in the past few months for me to go with a small trout net.

my net is not to ensure i land the fish. its so the ones i cant shake off or flip the hook out easy cand be subdued and i find it knocks a minute or two off the fight. i find it easier to grab the bigger fish than the squirts with the soft tail. easy to grab the paddle.....

Holy crap a 40" rainbow!!!??? Dude are you in BC or something?

I've been steelheading for over 25 years, and never carried a landing net other than a long handled net while pier fishing. Get yourself a wool glove. Your all set, landing done! tail fish with left hand, tuck rod between legs, yank hook with forceps in the right hand. Carry one less piece of unneeded equipment around, save $25 and don't get snagged up while walking through the bush! I have landed untold quantities of bows with this method, and never said to myself "oh dear, wish I had a net"! Anyway, YMMV!

ya with that magnetic clip it doesnt look like you would even feel the net.

BTW if the guy who I helped land the fish with my net out east is reading this PM me! lol
