Unfortunately where I live I have very limited access to chrome, and I'm not much of an ice fishing guy (although that may change). Therefore, I spend most of my winter saving up some money and determining how I'm going to outfit myself for the next 3 seasons of fishing. I figured that this thread could act like the gear version of the ultimate photo thread - stoked about new gear? Shoot a pic and toss it up here :D

Below is what I've accumulated so far, however I have another rod (pike saber), a bass pro shops order, and an orvis order on their way which I will update you all on as they arrive.

First of all, I've recently gotten into video editing so I decided to pick up a GoPro Hero 3 black edition with a few mounts in order to make some edits.

Made these bad boys in 2012 but they haven't seen a spring summer or early fall yet haha. The FirePerch and Baitfish patterns are not my design (just assembled them) but the airbrushed blades and spoons are. Still gotta work on my paintings skills lol. Sorry for the weak quality I'm using a phone cam and webcam...still haven't pulled the trigger on a gopro of my own.

Great looking stuff! Nice job on the painting!

Thanks, FishingNoob! Like I said, there's a method behind my madness :P I just try and put money aside every pay during the year, and then come winter I decide what purchases I would like for the upcoming season, and allocate my money accordingly. Definitely feels like a second Christmas though for sure!

Nice work Backwoods, it always feels better catching fish on your own creations.

I picked up a nice new Ice fishing rod yesterday. I went in for a St. Croix Med-Heavy rod but they were all sold out. They had a few of the R-types left which were a little more money but it feels like a very nice rod. Paired it with a stripped fly reel the rod feels so nice in my hands. Cant wait for this weekend.

Good luck bud! Hopefully something decides to truly test out the new toy's capabilities!

Madoc: Thanks man! Still have a ways to go but lucky for me bass aren't too picky haha!

NADO: Thanks to you too, and I agree with you 100%...I was able to get out late in the season with the fireperch and baitfish patterns and bagged a few bass only 12-14" and pike 18-22" but they all felt like trophies to me!! I hope the ice rod works out well from what I hear you can't go wrong with St. Croix!

Here it is. Spooled it with 10lb Ande and for backing I used the string used to tie chickens when cooking them in the oven. It gets too expensive using dacron all the time especially for an ice reel so I figured I'd give it a try. This rod feels so nice, ive just been jigging in the air waiting for the weekend to come haha.

Nice gear man! I don't ice fish but I can picture a lot of situations that jig would clean up. Pardon my ignorance but what are you fishing for with that jig/rod combo? Lakers/Splake,?? big Pikers??

Sweet looking setup Nado. I'm thinking of getting out and trying some hard water for the first time - would be targeting rainbows... We shall see!

I bought the rod for lakers but i'll use it for pike too. There was three of those jigs in the clearance bin at rainbow sports in the summer and I thought i'd pick em up and see if they would work for lakers. They have big eyes that glow in the dark and the body is just a marabou jig.

With big purchases behind me a couple years ago all I got this year was some new fly line.....Rio Indicator Line. Haven't used it yet but it is spooled and ready to go.

Madoc: those pike flies look great, looks like a short hook though, they have stingers on em?

Hey JMatt - interesting as I was thinking the same... no stringers on them, but maybe I'll rig something up if I find it necessary :D
