Murray's doesn't look much like a hellgrammite sorry to say
Try this
This suggests that a recipe is needed, will see what I can come up with

Thanks for the confidence man, I'm sure I'll have fun learning even if it is tough.
Haven't come across a perfect looking helly pattern yet myself. Saw one that was super nice but I can't find it. This one was my second choice for looks:
I also am pumped to try this one out: "the cormorant".

Chase is that a pic of Nigronia Serricornis? It looks like it is, only I can't confirm it's max size in Ont is 4".Murray's doesn't look much like a hellgrammite sorry to say

Corydalus Cornutus is suppose to reach 9cm 3 1/2", Ontario's second most common Hellgrammite.
That fly looks great, but a long hook like that gives the fish alot of leverage to break it at the bend. I've tied articulated patterns with smaller hooks, that's what I would do. But that is a good looking immitation. If you can find the pattern that'd be great.
Thanks.

Actually working on a pattern as we speak....
Funny you mention "articulated patterns" as that is how I tie my stones...

The D5 Hellgie seems over dressed in my opinion (all dressed up and no place to go...)
Probably catch fish though
Haha impossible for me to say if it would catch fish. I can tell you for sure I won't be attempting anything with that many steps for a while though lol.

This is a better view...shows what I've done to the hook profile...
