My buddy (OP) and I are in Sauga
We were planning to go to desjardins canal sometime this weekend to try our luck with the cats although it may be hard with all the ice and all. We were also considering Welland and Dunnville at this time but have the same concern with the ice.

Red: yeah haha we figured its not season YET, but we're just a bunch of young fishers that were a bit itching to go since its our reading week. Was wondering if its all iced everywhere? (probably is...)
might just have to wait till towards end of march...when spring hits.
Thanks everyone for your inputs, much appreciated.
I'm also new to this forum so greetings to all.

The last fish was over 20 lbs... wish I remembered exactly what it weighed.

Not sure if the Desjardin is iced up, I haven't been there lately, but there is a pretty strong current there so I do doubt it. Normally I don't see a lot of Cats til the end of Apr and start of May when they start moving to their spawning areas though.Hey there,

I'm getting antsy already. Not only is there still 40" of ice on the river and lake but the season is basically closed except stocked trout waters.

Well Wed. did not produce for us, but the winner of the tourney weighed in 59.22 lbs.
water was still cold at 8 a.m. 11 *C, looking at the charts its rising daily, i will be back out when it climbs to 14*C.

I may be missing something, but I just reviewed this thread twice. Not sure what tourney you are referring to. But a quick google tells me that the world record Channel Cat was 58 lbs caught in one of the Carolinas in 1964. 59.22 would be huge and a new record, wouldn't mind having that tow my boat around for a while.
