If it's your first time there I strongly suggest you put studs in your wading boots if you haven't done so already.  Also wear a wading belt and use a staff or stick to help you keep your balance when crossing.

The current there is no joke.  Good luck.

It's a beautiful system.  I can't believe how clear the water was when I was there last summer.

What CJR and leakywaders said is no joke. Bodies come out of there every year and some just disappear completely  Use care and common sense.

It is a great river and has great fishing. Like any other large river it needs to be respected.

Alfie.

Thanks for all the tips guys I wasn't planning on fishing the main rapids tho. I dont have much experience fly fishing water that fast so I'm thinking of fishing some of the smaller tribs that come off the st.marys near little lake George.

If you're thinking of those tribe make sure you check the regs carefully. There are several sanctuaries to protect the spawn as well as many areas covered by the reserves. I. Was there this past weekend and not much was happening in the rapids yet. Still too cold and most area tribs are still frozen over. Another week or two before things ramp up. Just my opinion though.
