I recently took up odd jobs on kijiji to make some extra cash.

I thought to myself-- i've been in the area about 10 years now and know a few secrets, i should do a private charter for cheaper than the guys who do it for a living.

My first charter was saturday. I feel bad for him because he caught nil. I took him to a few spots with agressive action. threw my plastic in just for kicks and here's what i pull out.

 

All in all, i hope he was satisfied knowing that the big guys are in there. i suppose he paid mostly to know about a few honey holes.

 

I suppose i'll throw a shameless plug out there and say anyone in the KW area want in, PM me and we'll set something up. I'll try to help you catch one of these great fish!

I'm curious to know where in the KW area you found trophy trout. I know a few area's within a short drive for residents and a few areas that are a bit longer of a drive (30-50min) for steelhead but as far as trophy trout actually in the KW area there isn't anything??

There are humongous browns, tonnes of large water + years of stocking..just like there are large pike, bass and walleye, browns are no exception.

this was more of a joke. i take people out who are novice fishers who have no idea what they're doing. taking you guys out would be more than akward.

NADO, i used to think that too. until i started watching the minnonite boys. you feel like a spy, but following them on their bikes will show you all the best spots...

For some reason I had it in my head that trophy trout must be steelhead but resident browns are certainly trophies as well. I'll be targeting them on the fly after work a bit more this season. Biggest I've gotten was a little over a lb but I haven't put much time in. Its a lot more work than finding the steelhead that are migrating up river and stack in pools, the browns spread out quite a bit.

There's a pretty good concentration of browns below the lake - middle river. Some are indeed trophy browns, however know where you are and be sure to follow the regs as there are several no kill zones where single barbless hooks are legal and nothing else.

again, this was more for novice fishermen who just got their rods. I'd be willing to take anyone out (i charge 60 a morning) but i feel as if my services would be useless to you other than you buying information from me.

maybe because he takes peoples money but cant guarantee a fish even though he apparently knows kw like a pro... fishing instructor maybe? charter guides catch people fish. that is what sets them aside from guys on kijiji.  and everybody is encouraging this guy like he actually has something to offer.

Trophy trout is abundant in Lake O. You can troll or do some shore fishing. Last year before the salmon run I was targeting pike and caught me a huge brown on a jointed rap. Didn't expect a big brown trout as I was using a size 13jointed. Didn't even know they patrol the area. And a week later. caught another 5lb. brown trout on #3 black fury...again i was targeting pike. GTA marina close to Leslie spit.

Anyone really can call themselves a guild. You might get lucky with a guys who actually knows something about fishing but if I was to hire a guide I would probably go with one that has a good reputation, members of some fishing organizations and is insured. Some of the random guys charge sometimes 25% of the cost the pro do so you might get what you pay for. Paying some guys 80 or a hundred bucks to show you around a few spots vs. 400 for a day for a pro charter. It depends on how experienced you are, if you are better at fishing that your guide you might have chosen the wrong one lol

Finding someone like Dozer would be getting lucky, won't break the bank and is far from a novice angler.

Tackle and gear ain't cheap these days. In fact. getting into fishing you encounter a lot of expenditures you will later on realize you can fish without. Gone are the days when I only use Rapala or Yozuri lures. Gone are the days that anything expensive is better. I have cut down my cost greatly. It would be good to experience a guided trip to learn more. But with so much water around us...trophy fish can be anywhere. All you need to spend now is time in the water.

It might be fun doing a few guide trips for some extra $$ but if one of your customers ever gets hurt you can get your a$$ sued, I hope you have insurance and it's about $1800.00 a year for insurance. I've had guys fall over rocks, slide down hills and even fall out of the boat, i even had a guy fall backwards into a bucket of musky lures after his bum knee gave out... Guys who dont normally wade in rivers are not always the most sure footed guys and accidents happen fast, ask any expereinced river guide and they will tell you they've seen thier share of brusies and blood and some guides have been sued for thousands. My first priority is safety and I'm very careful but accidents still happen.  Something to consider....

Good advice there. Some river bottoms are like walking on bowling balls. Have insurance and charge HST - make it legit!
